Buy or pass? 2012 F-150
Hello all. I have found a 2012 4x4 5.0L Supercrew XLT with 185k miles and three prior owners. No issues on Carfax but no maintenance logs are available. I haven't visited the dealership yet.
I can get the truck for around $11k which is less than KBB or NADA. Assuming an all clear from an independent garage, would you buy or pass?

Depending on the trim level that's not a bad price. I would advise to have it looked over by a independent garage as you mentioned. Also I would keep 4-5k saved in case something big (engine/transmission) breaks. With 185k and no documented maintenance, it's hard to say how long it will last you.

I bought my 2013 with 130k and have had no issues. But it did have a maintenance record and the oil was changed every three thousand miles. It was also only one owner.

Myself, I'd pass, unless it's an exceptional truck. 185K, with 3 owners, there's been too many hands involved with it for me to be comfortable in it.
Some people don't mind using/owning a vehicle that has been passed around that much, I feel like I'll contract an automotive STD.

My $.02, I think passing would be a better option. If you had access to maintenance done on it, then maybe but with that many miles, (which equates to around 34-37k miles a year) there is no telling what has been done to it. You need to figure to be in decent shape, an oil change would have been required at least 6 times a year at a minimum. Has it been pulled to an inch of its life or has it been cruise control? With no history, might be too many questions.
