Default Built Fly Tough?

2009 F150 XLT 5.4v8 Screw 6.5'

This morning I started up truck and it kinda hesitated upon ignition. Drove to work, got 15/16ths the way there and on an open car free road I hit the gas to check any response issues from my previous VCT solenoid and throttle body fix (long story).

All of a sudden the engine stopped responding (hesitated), then it redlined (foot was off the pedal) and immediately dropped to 0rpm and died. I was stuck in the middle of the road and I couldnt coast to nearest turn off, also no power steering.

Luckly warranty kicked in and I got a free tow. Took to the dealership and after a few hours they got things fixed, I also had them do the TSB for the 1+2 hard shifting.

So here was the problem...................A FLY GOT SUCKED IN TO MY MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR. How it got past the air filter???? Just remember next time you kill a fly, it can stop your truck dead in its tracks.

Well husker glad to hear you got her all fixed up. Crazy how around 10mg can stop over 5000lbs lol. Going back to the TSB you mentioned on the 1-2 shift i put a superchips cortex on my truck and and thought it was their tune causing the firm shift until i set the shift pressure to stock values and i am still getting the firm shift. Gonna have to run my truck down to the dealer get it checked out.FLYS

Thats a new one, never heard of that before.

But are you sure you were 15/16th the way to work and not 2/32nds from work?

yes a common house fly. thanks for the humor guys. this whole situation cheered me up because i was so freaking mad when this happened.

~~
First, the dealer or the service techs had never ever seen anything like it. I didn't get a picture, but they encased it between two pieces of tape and placed it in their break room!!

Second, when this happened it DID NOT throw a code. This was a major problem and the computer didn't pick it up. The oil light came on my odometer display. I seriously thought i blew the engine!!!

I guess the moral to the story is don't suck a fly on the way to work...always wait until you are on the way home.

what worries me, is if a fly can get in there, what else can make it's way into the intake

I am not lying, i have crediblilty on this board. "Maverick9110e" come on.....who is going to take a picture of a fly in a MAF? You wont be able to see anything. he tapped it on the shop bench and it fell out. The reason they knew something was wrong with MAF, they disconnected it and it started and ran fine. They took out the fly and cleaned the MAF and truck is perfect. Again, no codes thrown by computer.

In regards to "iamsuperbleeder", when they fixed my throttle body they found 4 pieces of plastic rattling in and round causing half of the problem. They said it was left over from the manufacturing process. So who knows. I might investigate all air intake areas to make sure there are not any holes, gaps, or cracks, plus my air filter.

"Mad Mike" yes but the dealership isn't open after I get off work....
