I have an iPhone 4S and use Exchange so all of my work contacts are on it. I also have it set up with a gmail account for my personal use. When I paired my phone I did not sync my contacts since I didn't want all of them. I thought I would be able to just add whatever contacts I wanted to the truck like I did on my Honda Accord. If that is possible, I haven't figured it out.

Is there a way to only download certain contacts? If there is no easier way I thought I could remove my syncing of my Exchange on my phone so only the gmail was there and then re-pair my phone and let them download to the truck. Turn off auto syncing and then reconnect to my Exchange server so my work stuff goes back on my phone. Is that the best way?

This is your only option. You can go in and delete contacts from Sync but you'll probably find it more cumbersome than sync'ing in the above mentioned method.
