It is a 5.0 V8. I struggled with what I should have done and the more I thought about it the more angry I got. I waited a long time and worked very hard to be able to aford this truck and I plan on keeping it for a long time.I didnt want to pay that much for somthing that every time I looked at it pissed me off or was unreliable.Ford brags about there quality but when something like this happens they tell you to bad.I work in manufacturing and understand how things like this happen,but when we make something defective we replace it.

What dealer was this? They deserve a little recognition for making things right. A lot of dealers would not have stepped up.

I'm thrilled that you got a new truck. I also believe that warranty and/or sales contract aside, a new truck is the by far the "proper" course of action for a situation like this. Nobody should have to accept warranty work on a truck that has less than 600 miles on it and blows an engine ... NOBODY. There are just too many things that end up being a negative, or at least a potential negative.

You would end up always worrying "what's next?" ... every little tick, vibration, etc. becomes an "oh crap, here we go again" moment ... it could potentially affect resale value ... something else could get messed up during the replacement of the engine, as there is a lot of intricate work required to basically disassemble the entire front end (mechanical, electrical, possibly some body pieces/parts, etc.). I just know that my mind would never be at ease with that truck.

Quick side story on something like this. I'm an avid hunter, and have quite a few custom built rifles. One of them was a pain in the butt from day 1, and took many trips back to the smith before it was finally shooting properly/accurately. It took almost a year total time of back and forth, range time, working up hand-loaded ammo for accuracy, etc. When we finally got it shooting right, I had still lost all confidence in the rifle. I hunted with it one time, and it hasn't left my safe since then.

All I'm saying is that the mental side of things - having confidence in your "tools" - is something that shouldn't be under-estimated, or overlooked.

I agree, especially if Ford didn't approve it. That means it was on the dealers dime. I mean, the can resell the old truck and recoup their fists, but if Ford didn't approve the swap and the dealer did it anyway, they need to be recognized. Heck, I'll fly up there and get my next truck from them!

+++++ on who's the dealer ????
That's a stand up job.

Just a little side note:
I'm retired from Ford. (36 years)
Yes motors go bad right from the box, they don't even make it out of the plant.
At the Lorain plant we ran as up to 110 units an hour 20 hours a day, and lost maybe one a week. (2200 units per day most times 6 days a week)

At the Avon Lake plant we had a joint venture with Nissan for 10 years.
Nissan built all the motors in Japan, but because of the demand, GM did some of the blocks. You could tell the GM blocks from the Nissan blocks from the outside. The GM's were better looking.
So GM shipped the blocks to Japan, Nissan would assemble and ship back to US. (keeps Japan workers employed)
We lost at least one motor a week and most were the blocks manufactured in Japan!!! (42 uph 840 per day)
All motors were sent back to Japan untouched, so never knew exactly why they failed.

This is a fantastic story, flyer58! I'll document it in our system; please send me a PM with your full name, best daytime contact number, the dealer's name, and any other details you'd like included.
