I have the 5.0,screw,3.73-I drive i'd say 90%+ city and avg.15.9.I drove to my brother in laws which is about 100 miles mostly interstate and avg was 19.2 and that was 70 to 80 mph(yeah i was speeding).I'm pleased with that, hell of a lot better than the wifes navigator 13.2 when you baby it lol.Truck has 3900 miles on it btw.

I test drove a new 5.0 several times (same truck) and it was getting between 6 and 8 mpg, with about 30 miles on the truck. This truck didn't seem to have much oomph. It was pretty closer to my current 4.6 2V F150. I really felt that there was something wrong with this particular truck and didn't buy it. I'd like to hear from you 5.0 owners regarding where the mpg's started and how quickly it got better.
I do recall my first tank of gas being better than my 2nd or 3rd.The first tank was on the dealer and I'm not sure what octane they used.I use 87 in mine now and it definitely gets better after the first few tanks albeit not a huge difference, all depends on how heavy your foot is.Now I don't even pay attn. i just drive it.I will say I spend on avg.$5 to $7 less at the pump every week than I did with my 2010 5.4.

5.0 SCREW 3.73 with 3,900 miles avg 14.9 over the life of the truck about 60/40 city/highway. Cruising hwy at 65 I get a consistent 18.5-18.9 mpg. City is more like 13-14.

My 2011 5.0 4x4 STX gets a tad better mileage than my previous 2010 4.6 2-valve 4x2 STX did, so, even with more weight ... still get better mileage.

On the 2010 - 3.73 rearend gears are the same, no tow package, 4-speed automatic ... no other differences between the two trucks that I can think of ... except for my K&N CAI and Superchips 91 octane 'performance tune', I noticed no difference in gas mileage with these last two non-stock items.

My 5.0 4x4 3:73 with 1700 miles on it hwy i got 22 mpg going to work driving 70
I have the 18" chrome wheels super crew. plenty of power quite happy. going to look at a performance tune after 5000 miles. i had a 2011 5.0 mustang and put royal purple in engine and trany and gained 3 mpg hwy.

You really have to take everyones experiences with a grain of salt, because the conditions vary widely. You have to expect significant differences when comparing driving in hilly terrain with a lot of stop and go, or much big city driving to driving on flat ground with little stopping.

I can tell you that under the same conditions my old 2000 F150 with a 5.4 and a 3.73 rear end got 15.5-16MPG. The new 5.0 is MUCH more powerful than the old 5.4 and a fair bit more powerful than my current 2010 Chevy work truck with the 5.3. BTW all vehicles were/are 4x4's

When my truck is fully warmed up with the cruise set on about 58 and driving on flat ground, I get about 24 mpg.........but that is not real world, day to day mileage. It is purely optimum conditions.

I don't know what to expect after about 10K miles, but I would guess about a 1mpg increase.
Forgot to add, my 5.0 has 3.55 gears..........How you drive it and where you drive it makes a huge difference in your mileage.

Did that include a cold start or was it reset after it was warmed up and on cruise?

FX4, 3.73s, 20s, camper shell...I average about 18.0mpg driving back and forth to work (hwy, interstate, pky overpasses, two lane roads, one mtn)...bought the truck with 500 miles on it and it got that mileage from day one...I have a very steady foot once I'm up to cruising speed but I like to hear the 5.0 when accelerating. I have driven it like granny would a few times and got 19mpg. Damn good for ~6,350lbs (truck, shell, gas, me) in my opinion...
