So shop looked at it, couldn't find anything that would cause the issue. Seems like 8000miles on StopTech rotors and pads is pretty quick, something caused it to wear out the top part of the pad, maybe something jammed in there and fell out.
Oh well, putting new rotors and pads on, clean and lube the pins and on the road again.
