I have a 2011 XLT 4x4 offroad with the 5.0. Yesterday I noticed a very loud noise coming from my front driver side. Into taking the wheel off found that the brake pad on the outside of the truck was completely gone to the metal digging into the rotor. I changed the brakes back about 6 months ago at 50k I know have about 60k on it. But the pad in the inside of the truck looked brand new. So I bought new pads (again) and a rotor because the other one was destoryed. After putting everything back together and pumping the system back up just like I did last time found that the caliber wasn't responding and neither of the piston in it were pumping up. Has anyone else experienced this problem or anything like it at all. I'm planning on replacing the caliber tomorrow and see if that solves the problem hoping it does at least. I know looking into it there are some TSB's on the 2011 brake system called Ford said nothing came up in there system with my vin. If anyone has resources to check on this that would be great. Thanks in advance for any reply's or help given.

 

Sounds like the front pads where installed backwards there should be 2 humps on top of the pad on the inside where it contacts the caliper pistons. Id check that first then caliper slide pins. did the pistons push in easy?

 

no the pistons were hard to push in. Had to use a c-clamp and a 2x4 to push them in

 

You should need a clamp to push Pistons back in.

Sounds like a seizing caliper, happens sometimes.

How were the sliders, they need to move freely; normally Sylglide is used to relube them.

 

Seized calipers are extremely common among all vehicles in my experience, not just the F-150. Especially so when they have gone through several winters. I know no one really checks their brakes on a regular basis so a good time to do it would be whenever you rotate your tires.
