Default brake issue

So I have done a general search of this forum and not found anything related to an issue I am having. so here it goes.

When I start up the truck mostly after it has been sitting for a long period like over night or all day. about 75% of the time I have very little brakes. either the pedal is rock solid, or I push down and it goes all the way down but I don't have full breaking power. after a couple pumps or about 10 to 15 sec. Maybe a little more, they are normal. and they are the rest of the time driving. It seams as if they have top build up pressure. I have watched the fluid level and every thing is fine. this has being going on for a few months.

Any suggestions or thoughts of what it could be?

FYI 2012 eco screw xtl.

Thanks

I have been told also that it could be the brake booster pump. I am hoping it is still covered under warrenty.

Sounds like it's dealer time, mack3748. What's the current mileage on your truck?

hey crystal

Thanks I have an appt. booked in on Monday. Was a little hard getting the time to get it in. hopefully it is under warranty. I have been told by an independent mechanic that it sounds like the brake booster is loosing vacuum. My mileage is 66,000 km.

The reason I asked another mechanic is I have not had good experiences with dealerships in the past. I am hoping the ford dealership will change that.

Thanks
Craig

So I went to the dealer, they confirm that it is a brake booster vacuum pump. I have 68,000 km on the truck. this part is not under warranty. For a part that is not a wear and tear item and should out last a truck to be faulty this soon should be under warranty.

And to make things worse, this part is on back order, so it will be a few weeks before they get it in. And it will be $400 to repair.

I bought a Newer vehicle so I wouldn't have to replace broken down parts for a long time, and if there was it would be under warranty, apparently I was wrong. I guess "built ford tough" isn't as it seams.

So now I have a truck that I need every day, that needs a part of the braking system fixed, and I cant get parts by dealer or aftermarket, that could fail any day.

Sorry for the rant, but no customer should be going through this.

Thanks
Craig

I have a '12 screw FX4 and had the same problem with the brake pedal hitting the floor after the truck sat overnight. The problem seemed to happen more frequently when I would go from Park to Reverse upon startup (especially scary when you have a 21ft boat trailer hooked up with no control). This happened right before 30K miles so I had the dealer check it out when I went in for an oil change. He confirmed it was the Booster Pump and it was on back order. It's been a month and still no part. My dealer said the part was covered under warranty though?

Hi Craig,

Since you used kilometers, I'm assuming that you're Canadian. I recommend that you reach out to my Canadian colleagues on the forum, FordServiceCA. They'll do all they can to help. Here's a link to their profile: https://www.f150forum.com/members/fordserviceca-150023/ Send them a PM and they'll get to work.

I'd like to look into this to see how I can help, Longs012. To get started, PM me your full name, best daytime phone number, VIN, mileage, and servicing dealership. I'll start checking out some options.

Default It's fixed

Happy his ordeal is over.

So long story short. I got it fixed. It was the brake booster vacume pump al along.

Got it replaced, problems still existed. talked to the dealer and found out there was a fuse blown. a 40 amp number 64 I think in the fuse box under the hood. Not sure if that blew before or after they replaced it.

The dealer did make a comment that he has noticed the fuses blow after he replaces the pump (still makes you wonder how common it actually is).

Default Same problem but still waiting for part.

I'm happy that they got your part to get you back on the road. Brought my 2011 F-150 (that I bought used little over one year ago) in for the same problem as you but the difference is they kept my truck because they said it was to dangerous to drive and that the part was on backorder. This was August 24, 2014. In the meantime they loaned me a Ford Focus. The reason I got the F150 is that we pull a travel trailer and love to camp, can't exactly pull with a 4 cyl. Did emailed Ford Canada and got a call 4 days later from customer service (which is a call centre) explaining that they were sorry for the delay and were speaking with there supplier to put a rush on the part. Called the service manager at the dealer to vent a little and got the same song and dance as the call center. So to make a long story short, today is September 14th missed out on 4 week-ends of camping and still no clue as to when this part will be in.
