Default Brake dust and powder coated rims

What do you use to clean the brake dust off? I scrubbed pretty good yesterday with just soap and water and a bristle brush and rag but could not get all of it off. I saw some good reviews for SeaFoam Bugs-Be-Gone but wanted to hear what some of you guys use that wouldn't be harmful to the powder coat.

This is what I use. There are several other brands, just be sure that what you opt for is meant for your rims' finish
  • spray onto a cool rim.
    .
  • let soak for a minute. *Do not let it dry.
    .
  • spray some on a soft bristle brush (e.g. tire) and scrub the rim.
    .
  • thoroughly rinse the rim.
    .
*If it's caked / cooked on it may require an additional wash/rinse.
    .
  • repeat for the other rims.
In SEVERE cases with THICK build-up you may need a heavy-duty, obnoxious solvent, but be careful not to ruin the finish.
.

try Simple Green full strength, that is what i use to take dried bugs off. non scratch pad for cleaning pots and pans helps also, just make sure it is wet.

I just read something about not using Simple Green on engines that are aluminum because it will cause corrosion, not sure if using it on aluminum wheels may have a similar effect.

In the military we would use simple green on certain things and would stay away from others with it due to corrosion capability. I am apt to not bring simple green anywhere near my vehicle.

Not that it'll help now, but usually after washing my truck I use quick wax on my black rims and they clean very easily next time. Having said that, if I had very dirty rims I would be inclined to use spray nine. Used to use that on my older trucks as a pre soak on the dirty areas without any issues.

Just soap and water. If they are exceptionally bad Zep makes an orange degreaser, found at Lowes, that I really like. Even heavily diluted it does a great job.

I use Eagle One for PVD rims. Spray it on cold rims, let sit a minute and then used a soft bristle brush and soapy water. Works great!

It's between $4 & $5 a bottle at WalMart and I get about three cleanings out of a bottle.
