I don't ever get to Wisconsin, but I travel quite a bit from North Carolina to Maine. I'd love to find a dealer who'd be willing to program my truck's system so that I can use my Ford brake controller. I'm going to give Tasca a call in Rhode Island. My Dad bought his '67 Shelby there, new, in '68 when he got back from Vietnam. He still has it.

Stromc, which Ford dealer are you referencing? (I would like a controller as well.)

Thx

Griffin Ford Waukesha, Wisconsin.

If you buy the part from them make sure you have the part number handy. They could not find the part without the part number.

Just wondering maybe we should start a tread on which dealers a willing to do the brake controller. Mathews ford Oregon Oh. did mine and I was there first one. When I first ask them they was'n't sure they could do it. So they said let my look it up and get back to you. They called me back a couple days later and said they would do it.It took a little less than a hour to put it in and program it but that was there first one. I'm betting the information is out there if the dealer wants to keep good customer relations.

My dealer told me the only way they would do it, that is program the controller, would be if Ford added it to the accessories catalog. That isn't likely to happen because only trucks equipped with factory 7 pin connectors in the tow package can utilize the controller. adding the controller to the catalog would cause confusion, they say.
Funny, in the dealer's show room is a display showing the brake controller right next to the cable bed lock, just like it is an accessory.
Another complication at my dealer is that the sales dept will only utilize an outside contractor to do accessory installs, citing the low profit they make if they utilize their own service dept. Since the contractor can only install "kits"and does not have access to the service departments computers, he can't install the controller.
I have spoken to the service dept directly. They will not install it claiming it is a liability issue.
I'm looking for a dealer who wants my future business and is willing to activate my controller.

Anyone in SoCal gotten this programming done ? What dealer ? Hoping I
can benefit from your experience rather than try from scratch with my local guy. I had called Power Ford in Valencia before finding this thread or even this website. They said they (Ford?) don't sell a part for a 2009. Not an encouraging start.

When I was shopping around for the part none of the dealers new about the part until I gave them the part number. I installed the controller my self in about 10 minutes. Called about 5 dealers for pricing on programing my trucks computer to recognize the TBC and none of them knew what I was talking about. I had to explain to each of them what has been discussed in this thread with regards to the service bulletin that someone published here. A few hours later I had 4 quotes for $100 and 1 for $56 finally got it programmed today and hooked it up to my Timberwolf trailer, it works great.

I spoke with service manager Tamara at Galpin. She was conferring with someone else but they seemed to know what I was talking about like they've done it before.

First of all DJ THANKS for the great info!

Now here are my questions. First of all the facts about my truck.

2009 F-150 XL 4x2
4.6 2V Engine
No foglamps
Only has the 4 pin connector (no 7 pin)
BUT it was built in 11/08

Does it have the required circuits? I may not use the IBC but want to know if the circuits are there so I can use the existing wiring with the add on TBC harness.

Any definitive answer?

Edit with more facts
Fuse 17 WAS indeed installed
I hooked up the harness for an aftermarket brake controller and DID have power on the red wire.
I am now ASSUMING I have the needed circuits. My only remaining question is whether the WDS will ALLOW the tech to turn on the IBC or will the VIN# showing no Towing Package be a block here.
