Wow, after reading many of these posts, I am glad that my dealer orders the factory installed brake controller on most all of their F150's with a tow package.

FYI, I looked on my truck's orig window sticker and the option price is shown as $230.00, for that piece of optional equipment.

Do any of you think I can get a ruling from Ford on this?

For those of you looking to buy the unit online this link was posted on another site along with much of the same information already posted on here.
Of course your still going to need to have the dealer program the truck to accept the unit.

You can pick up the controller (9L3Z-2C006-A) at tasca for about $233.

http://www.tascafordparts.com

It is not the easiest part to find on their website.

1. Under replacement parts (mechanical parts cat) search by drill down enter year and make.
2. At the select catalog window select view all catalogs.
3. Under search by factory part number enter 9L3Z-2C006-A

or you can call them 1-800-915-3141

The other website with the same discussion on brake controllers:

Out of curosity, where in the foothills are you and who is your local dealer? Lets have names of dealerships who are serious about quality customer relationships. Give them the business and let the idiots like the one in NJ go out of business.

However, I am surprised that they figured out that you really do not need the XLT Convience Package to install the brake controller as it states in the options list.

I am in the Sierra foothills (Gold Country) e/o Sacramento.

My dealer is Folsom Lake Ford, Folsom, CA.

They are a very large dealership, and sell mostly all 4X4 equipped trucks, as so many people in this region live at or in the snow line, and/or go to the Tahoe area often.

What I mean is, Ford has a say in what is a proper service procedure and what is not. Why do some dealers gladly perform this service for their customers and others deny that is is even possible or if it is possible they do not want the liability of flashing it. Ford can also issue service bulletins to cover such issues.
If Ford were to authorize the flashing of their service part by their dealer service departments, this discussion would be moot. They could establish a flat rate for the process. A dealer could not arbitrarily decide they do not wish to provide the service.

I stopped by my local dealer and the service guy said that they don't install them - after asking if they have had anymore install requests. I told him to go and talk to his service manager. After all I went through with this dealer and they have not educated their service guys - where are the thinking people - can't seem to find them anywhere? I say come on Ford - get your act together!

My wife called the place I just bought my 09 to check on the price of the brake controller & they told her that I would have to change the brake booster & master cylinder to be able to use it LoL.
I have 09 F150 Lariat SuperCrew 5.4 2wheel drive, with hitch, 7pin plug & trans cooler stock.

Spoke to my dealer last week. He said I could do some or all of the work and have them do the computer hook up to get the unit working. The only thing he said to me was if they did the install that he was not sure how long it would take and guessed worse case scenario 1.5 hours at normal shop rates.
