I'm not an expert on this, but according to what I've read, the Ford brake controller runs through the ABS/TC system. If your rig did not come built with the tow package(with the 7 pin connector as well as the 4 pin connector), the OEM trailer brake won't work.

Ok folks 2009 F150 XLT no factory towing package.
Bought the little bag of parts that come with the tow pakage trucks (circuit breaker, fuse)
bought Ford 7 pin/4pin trailer harness (plug in)
Bought Trailer brake controller (dealer programed)
Today I picked up my Travel Trailer from the shop and it worked great!!
So I dont know why everyone says that if your truck did not come with the factory towing package it wont work MINE DOES.

Took my truck to local Ford Dealer to have them "enable" the brake controller I installed. They wanted $95 (one hour labor), I passed. What is the going rate to have the controller turned on?

Default Dealer's Who Charge Too Much for ITBC

Again, this is posted earlier in this thread, but since there are so many postings that all dealer service managers should read... Here it is...
It literally takes 5 minutes to tell the trucks computer that the ITCB is installed on a truck...they have to pay cashier and service advisor and service tech, No More Than 15 Minutes Should Be Charged!!!! One quarter hour-period. Otherwise they are charging you for their employee training, something that they should pay for. The instructions are hurried in the thread...some people have printed them and carried them to dealer. It was my dealer who gave them to me to post...computer settings "Personalities" it is easy...Best of Luck!!!

Default Brake controller

Yesterday I purchased a new 09 FX4 that included the towing package. As part of the dealer prep my dealer installs the brake controller. When I got home, hooked up my cargo trailer and everything worked perfect.

Well I just got back from Landers Ford in Benton, AR.
They got me in and out in 30 minutes. $37 including tax. I'm happy with that.
Can't wait to pick up my new tow hauler from the Pace American factory on the 4th!

Merry Christmas All,

John

Anyone know what computer you need to activate this yourself?

I have a friend that is a mechanic and he has all the expensive computers for working on cars. Is there some specific system that a Ford dealer uses or could any mechanic with an automotive computer do it?
