Default If I sell my X4 tuner....

I recently sold my 2009 Ford F-150 Plat 2wd with 5.4L and purchased a 2014 f-150 FX4 with 5.0L. My question is on my 2009 I had a X4 programmer with 5 custom tunes from 5startuning which I no longer need anymore. So if I sell my X4 tuner to a 3rd party, does the tunes stay with it or will they not work on another VIN#? This was my first programmer which means my first time trying to sell one. Anyone have experience with selling a second hand tuner?

Did you return your old truck back to the stock tune before getting rid of it? The Custom tunes will stay on the x4, but if they have a different strategy code it will not work on their truck.

Also, if the x4 is still married to your old truck it will need to be unlocked by SCT. Last I checked it was $150 to have SCT unlock it.

Yes I returned my truck back to stock before I traded it in. Wow, didn't know that about the $150 for SCT to unlock. Thanks for the info.

Why not just use it on your new truck? The canned tunes will still work or you can just buy new custom tunes for your new truck.

I thought you could use it on 5 different vehicles before you had to pay to have it unlocked, assuming you return each vehicle back to stock before using it on a different vehicle.

I didn't want to put it on my new FX4 because I'm worried about something happening and factory warranty not covering it.
Just curious, but the canned tunes would work on a 5.0L if it was tuned for a 5.4L?

If you have part number 7015, it will have canned tunes for the 5.4, 5.0, and the 3.5 ecoboost trucks. I would just make sure you have the most updated firmware on it.

Look into Stage 3/5* aftermarket warranty
