Default Boss 302 manifold for the 5.0

1)Is anyone running the boss 302 manifold and does not like it? 2) If you are running it is it worth the money? 3) how difficult is it to install? http://www.stage3motorsports.com/BOS...ar-Tuning.html.

If you are willing to trade low and mid range torque for a few ponies up top go for it. It's a great combo for the dragstrip but not so much for a working truck.

Basically what he said. You lose a lot of torque with the Boss Intake.

I have to disagree. I've been running it for about 4 months and love it. It's all about who tunes it. Got mine tuned from SSI. Actually feel like it has more power down low now. It takes off and just keeps pulling.

It has nothing to do with who tunes it, you cant tune an intake. The intake is designed for one thing and one thing only, and that is top end, motor spinning to the moon power. The runner size of the intake says it all.

Is there anything special that you need that doesn't come with the kit

I've read every thread on the internet on this, I don't think there is any power loss out of the boss intake. Read the thread "it's a boss thing" I just found one used for 300 and gunna buy the rest of the parts needed. I contacted mpt about it, and their getting really good numbers with it.

I just dont understand why you guys would want an intake designed to wind a motor out with. An F150 doesnt have the cams to get anything out of it.

The gains from this intake, even on Mustang GTs start around 5000RPM. You might not lose a ton down low, but your not going to get much out of it. Seems like a waste of several hundred dollars for a few extra HP in an RPM range you will never use on a truck.

Heres a graph made by 5 Star. Keep in mind this is a tuning company, so take it with a grain of salt:

Look at where the gains are....There is a decent bump in torque from 2500-3500 but the significant power increases are all well past any RPM range you would normally use the truck in. Also, keep in mind this is a graph of a STOCK truck with no tune VS a truck with the intake AND tuned with 93 octane. So not only are you seeing the gains of just getting a tune, but also compounded with it are the gains of a Boss intake.

Here is a graph with a Boss intake being tuned for 87 and 93 with headers. Here you can see that the 93 octane tune Provides the big gains, and it accounts for the torque gain bump from 2500-3500. Keep in mind it has headers for both runs, so the curve is significantly smoother/flatter.

Here is a graph of just a truck going from 87 octane to a 93 octane tune:

Here is another graph from an MPT tune doing the same thing:

Keep in mind when you compare all the graphs the scale of the x axis. There are certainly differences in terms of more/less work being done in certain RPMs... but Seriously study these graphs provided by 5 Star and MPT and show me where its worth it to spend the money on the intake. I cant see it., not on a truck. Your giving up usable torque for unusable power WAYYYY up in the RPMs. That just doesnt make sense for a truck IMO. I can see it if you have a tremor or something and you want a faster truck. If anything, just get a performance 93 octane tune.

To each his own I guess.
