Borla Xr-1 vs. Borla Atak vs. ROUSH vs. Straight Pipes (after cats)
Debating upon which route to go with my '12 5.0.
I like the idea (flow) and sound of straight pipes, but according to Borla the ATAK exhaust set up flows just as good if not better than straight (and cops can't ticket me like they could with straight pipes in my state).
The ATAK set up IS ALOT OF MONEY for what could be accomplished with an XR-1 (I think) and they're a lot cheaper..
What's everyone's opinions on these?
1. Weld up pipe where the resonator and muffler are now and call it a day?
2. Buy the expensive (over $1000) ATAK set up, which is loud as hell and legal.
3. Buy an XR-1 and weld up that muffler in my pipe already? (would only run about $300)
4.Buy Roush set up which sounds good all around and spend $600 something.
Videos below of these guys I found on Youtube.

Borla XR-1 (Video gets Loud at 3:20)

Roush (I believe Borla makes Roush's mufflers)

if it were me id go for the roush, or the borla muffler, the attak is cool but stupid expensive, and strait pipe's are just lame, no actual sound quality.. its just noise, and c'mon a nice new expensive truck and your gonna chop out the muffler and tak a piece of pipe in its place.. not for me

I'm trying to figure out the differences between the Sportsman and the Multi-Core mufflers right now, which appear to be the best choices for our 5.0s.

Do you happen to know which one you threw on? Below is the XR-1 product specs page.

I bought mine at jegs because they will price match any advertised low price you find. This muffler use to come on some of the vettes I believe.

I currently have the Borla ATAK on my 2012 F150. It's loud when it goes above 3k RPM and extremely loud at 5k RPM. It's also quiet when driven normally. I love it. MSRP is like 1200 but I got my set from autoanything for 850 shipped. They price match. Start searching for a better price than $1000.

Have you heard a ROUSH? I can't decide either... Not sure how the ATAK would compare to my cherry bomb set up, witch is loud but I have nothing to Compare it to around here...I get a large distinct cherry Bomb "rattle" when I get on it and it just sounds to old school to me ... Summit racing online has the ATAK for like 890$ and the ROUSH at like 600$...which ever is louder/deeper without back firing popping sounds..both are stainless which is nice..ROUSH just bolts on..does the ATAK need welded? ATAK claims no cab noise/drone which doesn't bother me regardless ..my stock resonator is already off any way
I've personally only heard the exhausts on youtube. I did search for literally hours though and went through multiple videos.
Seems like ATAK would be the loudest, hands down. With that being said, it also seems pretty damn raspy when you get on it. The Roush sounds like more of a "tuned" performance V8 to me.
The question is though, what do I want to go with...
