Default On board air systems

I'm looking to add a onboard air system to my truck (mainly for train horns) the issue in having is where to mount the Compressor and tank? Was thinking maybe I could mount the compressor somewhere in the engine bay and the tank on the frame rail? I don't have a toolbox and can't have one. Always have either a snowmobile or a dirtbike or something in the truck and need the room
So what do you think? Where are some good mounting spots? Thanks!

On my old ford ranger I had one fabbed up under the frame. Little easier to mount stuff without a boxed frame though. And have to make sure the compressor you get is weather proof.

My only concern is it getting damaged being mounted to the frame

It shouldn't get damaged being mounted to the frame. If it gets damaged you probably damaged a bunch of other stuff too. Rain and dirt wont be a problem if you get the right compressor.

Any recommendations on conprsssor brands? I guess I should start researching compressors
My next issue is going to be switches, there's a few things I want to add and don't have any aux switches, need to find a spot for like 6 switches (rather have extra then not enough) or maybe some kind of switch pod that can mount sonehwere and look somewhat decent

Kleinn makes a kit that just bolts up, all you have to do is run the wires to the battery. That's what I have.

Here's your answer to the switch panel question

I run a Viair compressor, had it for 10 years now. Fabricated a bracket to mount it between the frame and body on the passenger side. The 5 gallon tank, just behind it. Air horns are behind the grill mounted across the front, behind the grille. Switches and gauge in the glove compartment. I can switch between the stock horn and air horn.

I ran a line and installed a fitting to a bracket at the rear for air hook ups, air bags, etc.

Get a battery box, mount the compressor and tank in that and mount that under the bed. I had researched this years ago when I wanted one for my F350, never did get around to it, but also wanted it for train horns. Those are a needed item when that prius gets in your way and you want to make them know how displeased you are with their pulse and glide.
