Blower Motor Resistor
So, the other night (Wednesday) my wife and I were out in the truck, and when we got back in, I turned the A/C on, and it was on full blast, and had a hum, and vibration to it. I attempted to turn the fan speed down only to find I couldn't. WTF? We rode home with no A/C and the windows down in this unforgiving GA heat and humidity, because I was unsure what was happening, and didn't wan to make matters worse.
Started searching here, and on YouTube, and found the fan speed thing was the blower motor resistor. Ordered the part (MotorCraft YH-1829) on Amazon for $40, and it arrived today. Super easy to replace, located under the dash on the passenger side, and held in by two 8mm bolts. Got it replaced, turned the truck on, and fan speed is adjustable again, but the dam hum, and vibration are still there! Back to YouTube...found a video where a guy found the cellophane wrapper from his wife's cigarette pack in the blower motor, and it was causing a similar sound. Not sure how it got there, but it was in there. So, I went about dismounting my blower motor, three 8mm screws that were a bit more difficult to remove, but certainly not impossible. Got the motor out, and found the cause of the hum and vibration, but have no ideal what the hell it is (pic below). Ever since I bought the truck, there's been a slight hum when the fan was on high, but nothing like it was the other night, so I assume this thing has been in there a while. I'll also assume that it could be the cause of the resistor going out, by jamming up the motor, and causing voltage issues...maybe not though.
Anyway, does anybody have a clue what this piece is, or where it might have come from? I looked up in the area where the motor seats, and could not see anywhere it could have broke off from.

That looks like the business end of one of the blend doors...if you look up a picture of a blend door actuator you'll see the motor that moves the door and the keyed shaft on the end.
This means you probably have some part of the HVAC system that isn't working, either the mode selection (defrost, face, feet), the temperature, or recirculating air. My guess would be the door that controls the recirculated air, since it is close to the blower motor. However, I'm not sure, so you'll have to test everything and see what isn't changing when you change the controls.
