Default Blackout Feature Turned On

I want to be able to turn off the interior lights that normally come on when the doors are open. I want to be able to open the doors with no lighting at all.
I have heard that a "blackout feature" is available, and some police cars and I guess trucks have it enabled. I guess it is a computer thing and maybe the dealer can enable it.
I don't have any idea, once it's enabled, how it is controlled....from blackout to normal operation.
anyone got any ideas on this or have had this feature enabled ?
I have a new '14 F-150 Scab.
Thanks

As noted in your other post/tread regarding the topic (reference)...
Take your vehicle to a dealership and have them use their IDS (Intergrated Diagnostic System) to in effect disable the illuminated entry. *If you have 12,000 miles or less on your vehicle it will/should be *free*.
The module configuration parameter that needs to be changed is ...
Body Control Module (BCM)
» Police dark car feature » -enable-
What this gets you ...
  • interior -AND- all exterior (front / rear parking and cargo) lights do not come-on when the door is opened and/or closed. *EXCEPTION: Door key pad will still illuminate.
    .
  • when the fob is used to lock|unlock the doors, the parking lights come-on/turn-off for a VERY brief moment. *The time that the lights illuminate is MUCH, MUCH shorter than "normal". Would describe it as a flash.
    .
  • when using the key fob to lock the doors, the horn will not sound.

As a BTW and FYI ...

Beginning in 2011 the instrument panel dimmer control changed to a rocker switch (from a roller thumbwheel) and with that change the ability to disable the illuminated entry feature was lost.

Prior to 2011 to disable the illuminated entry feature you only needed to rotate the instrument panel dimmer control thumbwheel to the left position, past the detent.

And Yes, I have the " Police dark car feature" -enabled-

Fleet F-150s and Expeditions that are ordered / intended for law enforcement agency use are shipped with the " Police dark car feature" -enabled-

Just to be specific IDS stands for (Integrated Diagnostic Software) not system.

I have changed my notes to "software".
What about control over the lights? Is there any manual control over the interior lights at all once this software change is effected ??????????

If I don't post back by tomorrow afternoon or Joe doesn't reply, send me a pm, I'm on staycation for the next 14 days and have lots of honeydo projects as well as some truck mods etc. Getting old is fun but kind of sucks when you walk into a room and wonder why the hell I went in there. LOL

Rnlcomp - Just to be specific IDS stands for (Integrated Diagnostic Software) not system.
Just to be -CORRECT- ...

In the reference that was shown it stands-for System. *Software is but a component (just like the hardware) of the system.

Yes (you can turn-on the interior lights via the switch to the 2nd detent).
