Default Black Exhaust Tip

Hey guys.

So I bought a cheap black exhaust tip late last year and put it on my truck. A few months later I noticed it was rusting so I shot some stop rust on it and put a layer of bed liner on top. Few months later it did it again. I ordered a new one thinking it was too far gone and put bed liner on it from the beginning.

I hopped on the internet and started reading and I think my issue may not be caused by the tip and cheap paint, but heat. Guys are commenting on how hot their exhaust gets. I guess I never checked after driving. Anyone confirm this?

So if this one rusts out due to heat is there a clamp on(preferred) black exhaust tip that is high temp? I did some looking and a lot of them are 4" and up. Any help?

How about painting a brand new one with high temp paint like BBQ paint. I put one on my ecoboost and it quickly turned to crap. Need a new one myself.

Too late for that. I sanded it and put some bed liner product I had yesterday. I wish I would have read about the heat issue before doing that. lol.

Accelerated by heat, not caused by. It's still the cheap product that is the problem.

I did the high heat paint, but a fair amount chipped off last winter. Not sure what I did wrong, maybe needed a better topcoat. Or just to install my mud flaps.

Have had the following exhaust tips installed for 2+ years (includes winter driving) with no issues ...

*GIBSON Ceramic Coated Matte Black Stainless Steel - 500419-B

Not inexpensivie, but then ...
The bitterness of poor quality lingers long after the sweetness of low co$t is forgotten.

Did you paint that F150 tailgate badge yourself? How has it held up?

I bought the OEM Ford square tipped exhaust found on the 2016 and later Lariat Special Edition models for mine. It came in as polished stainless steel of high quality but I didn't like the "bling" look so I sandblasted and then hit it with my powder coat gun in satin black.

Been on for about year now and still looks like the same day I installed it.
