Default For those wondering why trucks are rusting out

I thought I would share this. My truck only has 125k but the old owners must of lived on gravel, this pile is just out of the frame from rinsing it and the second cleaning it has gotten. The first was blowing out with air and did my rockers at that time, they need rinsed as well. The first time was probably 3 times as much, the holes was level with dirt and so was the rockers, even the gas tank skid plate was full. I hope this helps someone on possibly saving future rust problems as it seems common from browsing around this site.

My 2012 was just as bad if not worst than you. I flushed the underbody for hours trying to get the sand out from all the nook and crannies.

Mine was horrible, dirt and crud level with the bottom of the holes and maybe a few higher, thats a pic from the second cleaning and I didnt get a pic of the first, and I didnt rinse the rockers yet just blew them out. Its amazing how much dirt and even good size rock get up in there....lol. Thinking about it now with the added weight could even get to the gas mileage some especially in damp conditions I bet it would add 100 pounds or so........maybe...

Yea very true, for bare metal.......Last time I checked on a coated surface it took abrasion to get bare metal, moisture, and something to hold it would cause rust as well. Its so WEIRD that only the non coated parts have surface rust from the factory...........Thanks for tech tip Mr Wizard..............All I was trying to do was maybe help to prevent it for many years and miles down the road.
