Default Bestop Trekstep Fail

Anyone who runs the Best top trek step, might want to check there step for sand blasting from there rear tire. Once the finish is off its only a matter of time before it fails.
Mine was about a year and a half old, I went to step up on tailgate and it failed,
I ran the full length of my shinn down the edge of my tailgate.
I contacted Bestop and was told that with out the original invoice, there was nothing they could do. Cant for the life of me remember where i purchased it from.
Oh well my bad. Hopefully this will save someone else from a broken neck. The discoloration in photo of my leg is bruising.

Did you notice the sand/rock chips prior or after it failed?

If you put the purchase on a CC, debit card or paypal, you should have records of the place of purchase. Then you can utilize that doc, or maybe a reprinted receipt, to get satisfaction from the manufacturer. Good luck man...sorry to hear about/see your misfortune. Keep us informed please.

Btw...I *know* that you *had* to be making up some new cuss words when that happened. OUCH

You might want to check there powder coating, its not very thick. It doesn't take long once that's gone for the sand blasting to do its job on aluminum. My step was a year and a half old and my vehicle is parked for a week or two at a time. So if you use it every day you will have to check them frequently. My step had 2 winters and about 13000 miles on it.

The hinges look so much like the factory power steps.
