Default Best way to paint chrome emblems black?

I've been running around with plasti dipped emblems for 2 years now and they're starting to look like ****. I bought new front and rear Ford emblems, a new backup camera housing, and new F150 badges for the sides and the rear of the truck. I got the black and red special edition ones, and I'm going to paint the red inside the same color as my truck, which is ruby red. Now for the chrome and the blue on the Ford emblems and camera housings... What is the BEST way to paint that surface so the paint will stick and I won't have to worry about it coming off? Thanks! -Mike

Best way is to buy the appearance package emblems to begin with. I've had trouble getting rattle cans to work. Lots of sanding and adhesion promoter worked for my Ford logo tail gate surround but my the tailgate emblem I painted is chipping.

I did that for the fenders and tailgate "F150" badge, I'm more concerned about the front and rear "Ford" emblems. I wonder what I could use to strip the chrome off the plastic. I was also thinking of using an epoxy based primer, and just painting on top of that. I'm also not opposed to paying a body shop to do it, I just want it to be right!

Disassemble, scuff, adhesion promoter, primer, base coat, clear coat... out of a gun.

I just got done doing this myself but on black ones.

Disassemble, scuff, adhesion promoter, primer, base coat, clear coat. I used rattle cans though from O'reily and they seemed to work really we

Were they hard to separate from one another? And how did you get them off the fender?

I went and bought some plastic trim removal tools at the auto part stores. they are plastic non marring tools. I gently pried and let the adhesive stretch. some say you can heat them up bit I didnt. once off, I peeled the adhesive of of them and then they just sort of snap apart. Pre 2012 trucks might be a single piece as they swapped vendors and designs (same part #). the tailgate has metal clips but them came out easily. it was actualy the easiest one. TAKE YOUR TIME.

I then used goof off to remove the rest of the adhesive.

Did you use the body trim tools to take the tailgate emblem off, or did you have to go in through the back of the tailgate?

How did you put the emblems back ON the truck?
