Dead key fob
I'm hoping someone from Ford service might be able to help out with some info.
Here's the story.....
Last month I bought my truck, 2013 F-150 XLT (XTR package) and I only received 2 standard chipped keys with it. That's how the lot received it. I have confirmed thru my local Ford dealer that the truck does indeed have factory remote start. But not happy with the $140 price tag, $10 to cut it and $121 to program it I wanted to research other options. Locksmith shop wants $130 and $2 for cutting. I turned to ebay, researching and comparing, doing my homework. Found a retailer with high regards with product and customer service. They sell oem replacement fobs for several different makes and models. I ordered one for my 2013. Looks exactly like the one at the ford dealer, at the locksmith shop and like the one for my bro-in-laws 2013 FX4. Locksmith cut it and I tried multiple times using 2 methods and nothing. Took it to the locksmith shop to see if it was working, using the scanner/tester. Push buttons and no tester beep. Changed the battery and still no beep. Clerk took his keys from his pocket and 2 random fobs off their shelf and all 3 the tester beeped. I then contacted the online retailer letting them know the fob was DOA and not functioning. They wanted to know make/model of vehicle. Then they asked for the FCC ID number, saying it could be found on the original remote or the electronic board. Went back to my local dealer and the parts guy there doesn't know what they mean by that. There is no such info listed when pulling up the vin. Other than it lists a 315mhz frequency. Is the local parts guy wrong, is the online retailer sending me on a goose chase?
This is the fob.

Some Ford remote start systems do not use the remote start buttoned key/key fob. My truck has the OEM remote start and I have a separate remote start button fob. Sorry.

Most likely the FCC ID# will be on the back of the fob or inside on a chip, board, or sticker. It will say FCC ID# right next to it.

Given the fact that the fob didn't pass the Locksmith's tester, what is the locksmith's opinion? I would assume, based on that test, that the fob is not functioning.
Out of curiosity, does the key start the truck in the ignition switch? When I was looking for a remote start key, I tried several from amazon, and the fobs would all program, but none of them would start the truck with the ignition switch.
I ended up getting a refurbished key from http://www.carandtruckremotes.com/20...furbished.html. They also have new keys. But you will need to know if your other 2 keys are master keys or clones. If they are master keys (such as a Ford OEM key), then you can use them to program the 3rd key. If they are clones (like most cheap aftermarket keys), then it would have to programmed at the dealer/locksmith.

A quick DuckDuckGo search shows an FCC ID of CWTWB1U793 for these remotes (that's what mine has molded into its plastic). It's going to be a blanket license that should apply to every Ford remote that's in this line of remotes.
The one possible complication is that the XTR is, IIRC, a Canadian package, and they may have different frequencies allocated than we do in the US. I think the US and Canada have harmonized their spectra, but I don't know for sure.
