Best modifications under $50

I am looking for someone to come up with a less than $50 mod so the tailgate doesn't bounce off my 2012 Eco screw if I have it down at the farm but not with a ton of stuff loaded on it. I mean it bounces so hard it scares the kids and dog both. Couldn't ford have thought to make it so you could lock it open? I was thinking of mounting a small hook or something and running a bungee or rope to the hitch. Any other suggestions from you smart fellers?

I got that tailgate assist on Amazon, but I noticed they sell them at 4Wheel Parts too.

Mine is still a work in progress but I can post some pics when I'm finished. I just used an extra shed door hinge that I had in the shed for the whole divider and a smaller one for the smaller divider arm. I had the bottle opener laying around so I thought it would be a good addition for camping and tailgating. I'd take a look at Maximus' photos a few pages back. I like his locking hinge for the arm and magnet idea. I decided to use a hook and eye to hold the arm out because I had an extra. I still need to cut out the holes to lessen the weight and for my fishing rods. It's still pretty heavy
here's a pic of the hinge I used close up.

Just did a divider to hold my concrete blocks in and also added a gun mount/holder for dual purpose and thanks to another member mounted a shovel on the back. The gun butt to the right was used to measure and the bungee cords hold them in. I used to lay them on the bed but driving over bumps banged my scopes on the rifles. Still have room in the back for extras. The things you do when your bored.

I finally got my holes cut out. It really helped lighten it up and makes it easy for fishing rod transport. I love the shotgun idea and I might have to try and get that incorporated into my setup. I used pressure treated wood and its still pretty wet so I'm going to wait a couple of months before I paint it black.
