That's what I did for the rear doors on mine and skate tape hasn't lifted one bit in 3 years. And my kids abuse it. Oh and it was only $8 for enough to do two doors plus.

Take a look at
Amazon Amazon
They are a bit more than Skateboard grip tape but it has more of an OEM look.

Have had a set on my truck for 4+/- years without incident.

I mean, you should be washing the area down, wiping it with alcohol, applying the pad, holding for 30 seconds to keep it down. It also wouldn't hurt to stick some actual epoxy/silicone adhesive under it instead of relying on "sticky stuff" to do the job for you.

I cleaned it using a microfiber cloth with degreaser, then alcohol. Applied adhesion promoter to the area and used a roller to make sure there were no bubbles and the adhesion was great ... for about a year. then it started to peel at the corners.

I like the pads, they have just the right mount of grip. But I wish they would have lasted longer. I am now looking for an adhesive that will let me glue the corners back down without being permanent as to remove the paint If I decide to remove them later.
