Default Best mod to date....NEW TRUCK

Guys after a long two weeks of constant problems with my eco and Ford's mediocre responses to those issues....I bought a new truck. I'm sure there will be issues but my experience with my 2005 Silverado SS was better than Ford's customer service.

Issues: Misfire codes, double ****** door handle, bad battery, low boost codes, fuel in the oil, three cross-threaded turbo bolts, one broke turbo bolt, and Turbo inlet pressure codes that resulted in a new MAP sensor and wiring harness. All in all 9 business days with no truck...Ford said that this was "normal" and didn't do a lot to help. I tried to get them to get me into an older 5.0 truck...never heard back. After the truck stranded me within 80 miles of getting it back in a sleet/snow event----it's someone else's lemon to ripen.

So thank you Ford for making this choice MUCH MUCH easier....

I bought a 2014 Silverado 4x4 Crew Cab sporting the sport custom package.

Wait til the cylinder deactivation in the active fuel management system starts screwing up.

Grass aint always greener on the other side.......

Nice looking truck though.

I loved the ecoboost power....I did NOT like Ford's responses to the issues.

It's a nice truck and nice features. Rated at 355hp and 388 tq....I think with E-85 I've seen 375-380hp. So it definitely likes the new DI.

Default Good Luck with Chevy's Cylinder Deactivation!!!

March 13, 2014 7:00 AM

General Motors' redesigned 2014 full-size pickup trucks have only been on the market for a few months, but now they're being called back to the dealer to fix a potential flaw.

Certain 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 models are being recalled due to a fire risk associated with their cylinder-deactivation systems, the Detroit News reports.

Cylinder deactivation--branded Active Fuel Management by GM--shuts off some cylinders when extra power isn't needed, to improve fuel economy.
The trucks are only supposed to use two cylinders when idling, but a software glitch is causing them to idle with most of their cylinders. This can cause exhaust components to overheat, and hence potentially catch fire.

The problem is signaled by a "check engine" light on the dashboard and an "engine power reduced" message in the driver information center.

The recall affects 370,000 of the full-size trucks equipped with the 4.3-liter V-6 and 5.3-liter V-8 engines. It includes 303,000 trucks sold in the U.S. and 67,000 sold in Mexico.

Well aware....of ALL of the issues. The difference is that GM has jumped right on it. You missed the recent transmission hose leak that can drip on the exhaust and cause a fire, too.

Ford Ecoboost--- Condensation issues (still not fixed after four years).
--- Door handles sticking (my dealer no known fix).
--- batteries with bad cells.
---- Fuel dilution in the oil.
---- Turbo failures
---- A new "premium only" fuel recommendation
---- Misfires
Neither is without flaws....the difference for me was Ford's "well it's normal" and "glad we found it".....ohhhh and the "clear the code and drive it, it probably will not happen again".

Like I said the F150 rode awesome....great power...okay mileage.....HORRIBLE CORPORATE RESPONSE to my problems.

Nice truck, I'm trying to do the same as we speak.

Exclamation OOPS! More Issues with Cylinder Deactivation!!!

Wise choice ? ?

For years, GM has touted the AFM system as their way to save consumers fuel. The system basically shuts down cylinders when not in use meaning that a V-8 is a V-4. Yet, for the last several years that GM has used it, owners have complained about excessive oil use.
What causes the Oil Loss?

The owners that have reached out to us and the complaints we have read about say that the AFM is directly responsible for the problem. The reason seems to be that when the engine deactivates a cylinder, the oil doesn’t simply sit in the head, it either gets pushed out of the shaft or soaks into the rings. This then causes a loss of oil.

This condition may be caused by two conditions. Oil pulled through the PCV system or oil spray that is discharged from the AFM pressure relief valve within the crankcase. Under most driving is discharged from the AFM pressure relief valve within the crankcase. In combination with parts at the high end of their tolerance specification, the oil spray quantity may be more than usual, resulting in excessive deposit formation in the piston ring grooves, causing increased oil consumption and cracked or fouled spark plugs (#1 and/or #7).

I really hope you don't believe that the sales guy represents how the company will treat you when your truck has issues as well. Stinks that Ford treated you that way but don't think for one second is a Ford only issue when it comes to service.

BTW. Nice round tires in a square hole, never understood why GM does that.
