Best brake kit?
#21
i know this thread is old but its now back up to the front so ill throw my opinion out there. the factory brakes as we all know could use some help. one of the most over looked performance upgrades on most vehicles are the brakes. everybody wants more power and in the case of trucks bigger wheels/tires. whats the point of a 700hp raptor rolling on heavy *** 37s if you cant haul it in?
i recently upgraded my 2012 harley with the z36 power stop brake package with castrol lma brake fluid. this is a good, not the best, kit for these trucks and im sure the fluid helped too. its all new rotors and new pads. they are relatively low dust and are quiet as can be. my truck rolls 20s with 33s and i haul a 6k car and trailer from time to time and they do great reeling it all in. for an everyday driver that could use a little extra thats not over the top $$$ wise, i couldnt ask for more. just make sure you break everything (both pads and rotors) in correctly. makes a huge difference .
about the willwood 6 piston big brake kit. to be honest thats a great set up and what i believe is an excellent price. 2k for a 15" 2pc rotor and a 6 piston caliper isnt bad at all. hell my 14" brembo kit i run on my 03 cobra was over $3500. if my truck was my toy and what i spent my money on id definitely have that kit on it

I do like the powerstops. I had them on my 14, and when it got totaled, I was able to remove them and put the originals back on it. They are now on my 2016 with all told, 52K miles with lots of life left. The stopping is probably the best I have had in any vehicle save for the Fusion Sport with EBC pads. It is amazing how quickly 6000 pounds can come to a nice straight stop.
The only thing I do have a complaint with is the break in. I followed the directions to the T and it took over 1000 miles to get a pedal back. My suggestion, as I have heard of others having this issue with the F150 brakes, not so much the Powerstops, is to do one axle at a times, bed them in for a couple weeks and do the other axle.
Probably not an issue with EBC pads since they have a break in material that works extremely well. The Powerstop pads are not as grippy out of the box, they work, but takes more pedal effort until fully bedded. It can be a bit disconcerning because the pedal feels so soft at first, but once fully bedded, Damn can they stop!

I spent $350 on Wagner OEx pads and EBC solid rotors. Excellent brakes, felt great right away. Did the Wagner burnish procedure immediately in a parking lot, and then took it easy for a few days, few hundred miles. I haven't attempted to compare stopping distances in any way, but they do feel better than the aging Ford pads. They work great, very solid.

Power stop update: So after 2 days I cant believe the difference in stopping smoothness and brake responsiveness. I am aware that with shim on rotor a sharp jerky stop is expected, But I look forward to doing the rears when time comes. I guess I expect ford to be better then that (no clips causing pad/rotor replacement @ 36K)

Are Powerstops made in the USA ?

How's she goin' eh?
I got my pads and rotors yesterday from my friend's house in the US. Man, I never really gave it much thought but these are huge. Makes sense, 6k lbs needs to stop somehow.
My EBC padscame with a metal ring that goes behind the pads. Has anyone had experience with these? I'm use to those little metal brackets on the ends.
