Default Bed bounce

Hi all.

I have a 2011 F150 FX4 Supercrew, 157" WB, 3.5EB which i purchased new. The truck currently has 59k miles.

In the last 6 months my truck has developed a bounce in the rear when traveling down the road anywhere from approximately 50-60 MPH. It's more of an annoyance than anything, so I haven't taken it to get looked at. I rotated the tires to see if the bounce would follow, but this did nothing, as the truck still bounces in the rear.

When you look in the rear view mirror, you can see the top of the tailgate bouncing up and down considerably. It appears to bounce more so on the rear drivers side of the bed.

Has anyone else experience this issue, and if so, did you find a solution?

My truck rode smooth for the first 50k miles, ame I'd like to get back to the smooth ride.

Thanks.

Is it a suspension bounce or is your truck bed bouncing off the frame?
Suspension bounce would indicate shocks. Very easy to replace!

All of the bed bolts are tight. It appears to be a suspension bounce. I've initally was thinking shocks, but wasn't sure. I tried judging them by pushing down on the bumper, then releasing, and seeing how much the truck bounced before staying still. It was really hard to judge. I did the same "test" to my neighbors 2015 f150, and both reacted similar.

I may try replacing the shocks, and see if that helps. As you note, they are easy to replace, and are also inexpensive.

Shocks man I just replace my 2012 6.7 f450 shocks. The truck has 56k on it but we do a lot of dump runs and she's always loaded down. She weights 11,300 dry with a utility box on it. I went with the bilstein 5100 from stage3motorsports and man what a difference considering the roads here in Los Angeles County are beat to hell. My work truck had the bounce and hop replace them shocks and you'll be set

Default Shocks are done ....

Sounds like your shocks are worn out ... The OEM shocks dont last too long when you drive on crap roads and haul stuff quite a bit .... Heck any of the shocks listed in the above post are way better than oem .... You will notice the difference right away ..

Sorry to Hijack, anyone have any ideas if the bounce remains after replacing shocks? I recently went to the 5100 and 33" cooper STT PRO, the bounce definitely got better with the shocks, but at lower highway speeds it is still very noticeable. I will rotate the tires up front to see if Town Fair Tire just did a bad job balancing...but if I doubt that is the case. Any other ideas? Can the actual leaf packs be bad? I had this same problem on my '08 but sold it before I solved the issue. Truck now is a 2012 5.0 SCREW short bed with 130k.

My bed looks like its going crazy on the driver side when going highway speed. Pretty sure its just a shaky mirror!

Hey MustangJim21 and Burns331,

I recommend setting up an appointment with your dealership for this concern. Please send a PM with your full name, best contact number, VIN, and dealership information; I'll loop in your regional customer service manager to help keep that bounce to a minimum.

Chad
