Battery Saver - Seasonal Proof

After noticing this also during cold weather and my infrequent use of the truck, I bought a Deltran Battery Tender and a 12.5 foot extension cable.
I have hooked up the Deltran fine and raised my battery voltage to an acceptable level. I decided how to run the cabling in the engine compartment and come out the wheel well to plug in to the charger (front of truck is against the wall and opening the hood all the time would be a pain and inconvenient), but I haven't yet installed the 12.5 foot cable.

I think it is a inconvenience I will have to live with; It would make sense maybe after 5 minutes for the truck to give this warning but after 5 seconds when the battery should be fully charged from driving?? I love my truck but not perfect.
Ford does some things that I cannot explain like putting a 23 gallon gas tank on many trucks; this just makes no sense to me!

My 2011 5.0 STX never had a problem in the frigid cold. Always started fine and never had the battery save message on the dash.
However, a few days ago ( during 55 deg. weather ) I decided to disconnect the battery terminals and clean them. Big mistake.
Now I have the dreaded message on the radio display.
I even put a new fully charged battery in it and did the 8 hour ( drain test) as outlined in the Ford Service manual.
Still no luck.
So for me it was not a cold weather issue. I should have never cleaned the battery terminals...

I had slow start issues at 20'f temps.
I took the sensor off the battery cable, now strong starts at cold temps.
Screw you smart charge!

I removed the battery cable from the "smart charge" sensor.
Cold start issue went away.
Now charging at 14 vdc.'
Ford can take its "smart charge", and stick it!

I disconnected the sensor on mine today and the problem is now gone.
It still has 14.1 volts while driving so I see no reason to ever hook the sensor back up again.

I don't care if it's charging at 15 volts, if the alternator is only charging at 10-15 amps, you will have a problem. And, you will also have issues with your lead acid battery if it's overcharging as well, removing the BMS from the truck is not the answer....
