Exclamation Bakflip G2: Install by Myself, or Pay $80

I'm going out to get the Bakflip G2 from a local store for my 2011 FX4 today. The shop is willing to do the install for $80. If I do it I'll be installing it alone. Is this something I should take on, or would it be worth my while to just have the shop do it?

Lol...the main reason that I'm questioning it is because I'll be time limited for the install. It's -35 today, so I'm not sure how long I'll last outside or how easy it will be to manipulate the cover (particularly the rubber).

Any suggestions? If you did the install by yourself, how long did it take?

I installed mine myself and it's very easy. But....I'm in Texas and it definitely wasn't -35. If it was, I wouldn't leave the house. In your case, I'd say the $80 is worth it unless I could do it in a heated garage.

Or wait until it's warmer then install.

Do this yourself. These are very high quality and you will have no problem installing it. Here is our install video

Very easy to do, but that cold--I'd let them do it. You probably can't install the weatherstrip at the front of the bed below about 50. We've had that problem (not quite that cold but still...) and my solution was to ask the Line-X guy to put the weatherstrip on right after he sprayed the bed. Then I just needed to warm the garage enough to let my fingers work.

Ya, the adhesion of the 3M tape has me a little worried. I was thinking that I could heat up the piece of the bed that it adheres to with a heat gun as I apply it.

How long does it generally take to install the G2?

I installed my Backflip VP myself in less than an hour, that's including using a heat gun on the rubber to lay it flat cause it was a lil cold , wasn't bad at all.

At -35, I'd pay $80 for someone to bring my mail inside and take my trash out! If you do not have access to a warm garage, just pay it. (maybe even try and haggle if you want) It is easy to do in Southern Cali temps, but not anywhere below freezing!

It took me less then 30 min to install mine. It's easy to install. What's your time worth? Then again - 35 I'd pay the money unless you have a heated garage.

… I installed mine but inside my heated shop! No freaken way I'd d it with those temps… You tend to rush everything trying to get out of the cold, etc. Not a good thing! BTW I have the BAK sliding or roll up version and had a real issue during the install. Had to do some serious modification because it was not assembled correctly at the factory. Required drilling and tapping holes, etc! It about an hours worth of extra time to make it work properly and I WAS NOT HAPPY but it was at that very end when I discovered the problem I would have liked to send it back but was to far into it.

For 80 bucks and your temps.. let them do it imo………

You don't have a friend with a garage or something? $80 isn't a lot to pay someone else to do it, but honestly, this is a REALLY easy install. I did my FiberMax in 20 minutes and was taking my time. Couldn't be easier. I think I would kick myself in the butt for paying someone else to do it. But in that kind of cold, I wouldn't do it outside. I would pay someone as a last resort. Surely someone you know has a heated garage a shop floor you could borrow for a few minutes.
