If a truck has the backup camera option but no Nav system, yes, the mirror has a small LCD display built-in. You cannot see the LCD monitor at all unless you shift into reverse. The same mirror also has all the functions including the SYNC mic as the standard mirror. The picture is only 2.4" but so far I've read its good enough.

Do they make a mirror that looks like that but doesn't have the lcd screen?
I have a 2010 XLT and the mirror looks exactly like that and it has a wiring harness running into it.
Are the wires already in the dash somewhere near the headunit and I just have to plug in a camera?

The ones with LCD have 16 pins and the ones without (standard) have 7 or 10 wires. Look on the back of the mirror and it should tell you what you have.

Default Looking for Aftermarket BAck Up Camera System

My truck doesn't have Nav or Synch and I think this add on would be great for when I hook up our travel trailer to the truck.

Since my truck doesn't have any of the hardware or wiring for a factor unit is there another set up (aftermarket) I can purchase to do the same thing.

I see there are some that are wireless which seems the ideal route but then I again I don't want a cheap system that doesn't perform.

Just looking to see what others have installed that was aftermarket.

My car audio place that installed my remote start in the truck said they could hook me up with a unit that has a camera on the truck and one on the trailer so when the two are hooked together it will switch to the camera on the trailer so I can see where I'm backing. That system was $700 installed and included a monitor in the truck.

All I'm looking for is a unit that assists me with hooking up my truck to the trailer so I don't have to keep getting out. I have a system now utilized a mirror so I can turn around and see where the hitch is at but the next best thing over this is a camera system.

Let me know if you have a system that you think will meet my needs.

Default how about in the tailgate

I have a 2003 and have been thinking of drilling a hole in the center of the gate under the handle and installing an "eyeball" camera. Has anyone attempted something like this? I have seen this done on small cars where they put the "eyeball" in the plastic bumpers. My Toyota had it built in the handle and it gave a great view of the tow ball when hooking up a trailer.

Hi, does anybody know if the markings for the centreline and the red/yellow/green distance indicators are projected from the camera, or are they a function of the display? I am looking to add this to my XLT and would like to use my own display. I already have a Kenwood camera that I could easily mount below the tailgate.

Thanks!
Dan
