I'm getting ready to purchase aftermarket wheels. How do I know what backspacing to get? OEM is 17in

OEM Backspacing is 17 in ?? or you rim size is 17 in. lol Just measure your OEM rim.

It depends on how wide the wheels you are getting are and how wide the tires will be.
For the most part if you run a 9" wide rim you will want +18mm of backspacing.
