I doubt the truck rolled down your driveway, it probably slid from lack of traction. Tires are the only thing that is going to help you in that case.

Default Jeepers!

Don't get me wrong, I love the truck, just need to figure out the drive system works.

I have been parking there for 20 years, this is the first 4WD that won't stay put, which is why I am wondering how the drive system works. 2WD vehicles often slip down as the non drive wheels won't hold any of the trucks weight, and it inches down. Two locked wheels are not enough. My last truck was a 2003 Sierra Denali AWD.

The tires are really ****ty, you may have been lucky to get 4 free of defects.

I'd say less than half of the owners got 4 on their truck worth a ****. Just be glad you did.

I noticed in 4WD when I turn the key off the truck lurches forward. Similar to the lag when you put a vehicle in park and let go of the brake.

I think the front wheels disengage when you power off. Imagine what would happen if you were towing something like a boat on a slippery boat ramp.

I think this is a new system in the 2011. Did the 2010 Harley's just have an option for AWD and 4WD. I was a little surprised to see a 2WD option.

Any one know if this is a bug or a 'design feature?' Seems dangerous to me.

Mine actually slid down the drive this evening. Same exact thing. I was in awd with the parking brake on, unloading the snowboarding gear. Next thing I know, my truck was at th end of the drive. Front wheels rolled, back wheels slid. Not sure if 4wd would have had any effect. I'm wondering about this system too....

I'm quite sure that the AWD system in those trucks is clutch based. The sliding from loss of grip would not function the same as torque distribution under a driving situation with the clutches. If you leave the truck in 4WD and it still slips than your tires just suck, or you need some salt...

I am off on a road trip over a bunch of mountain passes (to Calgary) and it is snowing, so I will have a better idea soon.

Sure glad I got the snow tires now!

Any issues with 18" wheels on the LTD (ie are the brakes any bigger than the other f150's)? I'm getting winter tires for mine, but don't want to get worked over with 22" wheels, and don't want to chance wrecking the original rims changing out tires twice a year.
