So your seats will never turn on automatically when you turn the key. These auto settings are ONLY for when the truck is running with the command start system.
That's my interpretation of the system, anyone disagree?
That's my understanding of it too. Settings are just for the remote/command start. Once the key is in the controls are on the user.

Odd. The pic I posted earlier showed my screen the moment I turned the key. Both seats on medium. Whenever I didn't see this, it coincided with my seats not auto starting at all. In they words, they don't ever come on without showing that they are turned on when I turn the key.

I would also agree with this. I'll have to pay a little closer attention as to whether my seats are actually on with the remote start. I usually just start it from the house as im going to put my shoes on. It only runs for a minute maybe on the command start system so the seats are never really hot when i get in.

Might have to do some experimenting this weekend if i get bored.

I know this is all dictated by temp. My truck also live in a 55F garage. They probably shouldnt be coming on anyway.

For the life of me I cannot figure out the sequence that determines if/when they turn on.

For example, it was -20C this morning and the heated seats did not come on upon remote start. The other day, it was -10C and they came on. Other times I have noticed that they come on at 0C but not at -5C or -40C. Some times they come on and are set at full, sometimes they come on and are set on Low or Medium heat. I can't seem to see any rhyme or reason to when the system determines to turn them on.

Am I the only one in this boat? It's so intermittent that no dealer can properly troubleshoot in a reasonable time frame. Is there a temp point where the system disables it to protect something else?

I absolutely love my truck and a lot of these so called advanced features, but it sure is disappointing when they don't work as expected.
Hi ianinedm,

Was your dealer able to diagnose your issue? Please send me your truck's year and odometer reading; I'll see what I can do.

Bianca, I haven't brought it to their attention yet. I am not sure how the system is supposed to act and therefore not sure if an issue exists.

I did a little test last night as the wife and i were getting ready to leave the restaurant after supper.

I started the truck and let it run for right at 10minutes with the command start. Both seats were set to auto.

I got in the truck and both seats were very warm to the touch. I put the key in and when the screen popped up on the MFT screeen, both seats were set to off. I had to manually turn them back on just like i thought.

The seats with heat/cool are HVAC guys, so when it is -30 out, it's going to take a lot of idle time to generate any heat. I doubt that they aren't turning on at all but I would say that they are struggling to overcome the temps in the vehicle and the below freezing motor temps.

Maybe?

Hi ianidedm,

Are the symptoms persisting? Please send me your odometer reading as requested and I'll take it from there.

yes. They are still persisting. I discussed it with my rep when I had my truck in for a steering motor repair last week.

He gave me a suggestion to test out although I know this suggestion will do nothing but appease them.

He has asked that I try to turn the heated seats on within the MFT display before turning the truck off. They believe that this tells the truck to turn them on when remote started.

Obviously this won't work because:

1.) the moment you turn the key the seat turns off.
2.) it sort of defeats the purpose of Auto heated seats when you have to turn on before hand.
3.) there is no "last setting" option for this feature in the first place. It is not treated the same as the Heater function is.

It's hard to troubleshoot as no one from Ford can confirm how they are supposed to work. For example, at what ambient temp do they turn on? What ambient temp tells the system to turn the seats on low vs the high or medium setting? I have had them turn on at the low setting when -20c and yet they will turn on at the high setting at +2c or not at all at any temp. There is no rhyme or reason to when or how they work.

But I you want to follow up, my ODO reads at 11425kms right now. I am doing the testing right now as I have a maintenance due in Feb where they will look at it more. When we have 6 months of -0c weather, this is a really annoying issue to have.

Default Heated Seats

In my 2012 you program the seats to come on in your settings, when remote start is used!!
Anyone having issues with the heated seats failing? A LOT!!!
