Default Auto headlamp upgrade - lights always on when running

So I replaced the light switch and purchased the sensor to enable my automatic headlamps. The work perfectly except they're always on.

I thought maybe it was a DRL on issue (and it may be) but my understanding of DRLs is that they run at a lower brightness than the normal headlight intensity. I don't see any less intensity between switching the lights on and leaving them in the auto position.

They do turn off when I turn the key off.

Really the only thing that bothers me about it is bulb life. I suppose having them on is safer but 90% of my driving is in daylight hours.

Thoughts?

Did you purchase the sensor from Ford or did you get it from another source?

I have done this upgrade. And mine work perfectly. Someone else on here did this and had the same issue you have. I believe he lived in canada...where the DRL is enabled because of some law they have...it was either that...or the 2011's and up, just do that. I'm not 100% sure, so don't quote me on that...I'll see if I can find the thread.

Thanks for looking! I had done a search here and at F150Online but the problems seem different in most cases and the Canada mandatory DRLs throws a small twist into it too.

I got the sensor and switch from Tasca.

The sensor is only $15 so I'm not against buying another just to see if that's the problem but I don't want to be a typical Ford tech and just throw parts at a problem until its fixed. I'd rather identify the cause and then find an appropriate solution. I'm sure if I take it in they can hook it up to the IDS computer and see if the DRL feature is on. But my dealer wants $100 every time they hook up the computer. Screw that.

Ultimately I suppose I could just hook up a meter to the sensor and see if it's actually working.

Yea, I would recommend that 1st as well. Are your running lights on too?

Yeah...it worked awesome on my '10. But it seems 11's and up have problems with it. They must have changed something.

Mbullock, do you have part numbers handy? I know you did this mod and have been meaning to get around to doing it but have been too lazy to look it up.

Thanks in advance.
