I'm back on a droid, so I can't confirm this, but I don't miss my iPhone, if that means anything.

Okay, I'm a little confused.... How could it be Apple's fault for not being able to text through a 2011 or 2012 Sync with Nav? If I take the same Iphone that won't work in my truck, but then take it to a 2013 My Ford Touch system and it works, would that then prove it's the programming in the 11/12 Sync system that's at fault?

I have the '13 fx4 Eco with sync-nav... My Bluetooth worked first couple of days I had the truck, now Bluetooth connects to my phone shows up on the screen but the only music I hear is coming through my phone not car speakers... I can change tracks and pause and play from my screen on the truck, but the music only plays from my phone... What's going on? Also when it's plugge into the USB port it all works perfectly... Is it just a sync Bluetooth issue? Anybody else experience this?
Jaclyn/FordIVTteam,
Can you confirm if there is a 'dealer only' upgrade for the non-nav Gen I sync system? The 4.2.1.4/DR3T-14D544-AE version mentioned above appears to be for the nav version.
I currently have Gen1 / V3.2.2 / BG1T-14D544-AD which support.ford.com says is the latest version. The version is also unchanged since May 2011 and is a pretty poor implementation with plenty of bugs, particularly with how it handles USB devices. If there is a newer version that could be installed by the dealer, I'd love to know about it...
Based on past experience, I predict about a 0% chance that the dealer could give me an accurate answer, at least not without leaving the truck with them an entire day and having them call the tech line. Not an acceptable method for figuring out if an update is available.
I personally find it frustrating that Ford can build such a fantastic truck (love my ecoboost), but can't seem to build a music/bluetooth/USB system the equal of a $150 Pioneer aftermarket radio.... Crashes, fuse pulling, lockups, not being able to easily select usb or bluetooth music inputs after a restart, not remembering/automatically reselecting the last aux input, poor voice recognition accuracy, etc. If you can't build a decent and reliable music/BT system, at least have the courtesy to separate out vehicle-specific functions and give us a 1-Din or 2-Din opening to easily install an aftermarket unit.

With my iPhone 4 I have streaming bluetooth, which I must turn on every time i get into my truck. I also have calling in and out on the truck's speaker phone feature. But nothing else really works.
In the past I really tried to make it work but after my last experience trying to install an update to sync, I threw up my arms in frustration and typed up my experience to share with others:

Speaking of POS, I just made a service appointment for my truck because I found out that the latest Microsoft update for the navigation system in my Ford truck finally displays song info while streaming songs over bluetooth. Let me tell you what led up to making a service appointment:
Displays streaming bluetooth toe-tapper names?
I'm all in!
Downloading.
Oh my. Its Microsoft all over again....
Don't just have a link that works. Oh no, Active X must be active. Silver lining is needed.
Great, it can only detect a maximum of four drives and so it doesn't see my jump drive.
Microsoft, you losers. Why is this hard?
Then, then I finally get the new version on my USB drive and install it onto my Nav and it says "Installation Complete" but fails to restart the navigation system as the directions say it will.
I wait.
I wait.
I hit media.
I give up and restart my truck and the Navi and no title streaming over bluetooth. Near as I can tell the update never installed.
Microsoft! Why?
I'm not good at failing.
I download the installation App again onto my USB.
I reread the directions.
I start the installation process.
I wait.
I wait.
I pound 36 oz of beer.
Installation directions say once the installation is started, it is okay to drive around.
I drive to the store.
I leave my truck running in the lot.
I buy a sandwich.
I come back.
Something different on the screen than "Installation Completed."
"Sweet!" I think. "Bluetooth tags!"
I can't wait.
I pair my iPhone.
I turn on my bluetooth toe-tapers.
I'm so excited.
And then it happens.
"Media Streaming"
No music tags.
Why do you hate me Microsoft?
Why?

Class Action Suit or Lemon Law
Any attorneys out there?
If Ford advertised, and sold, the vehicle with the assertion that the appropriate features would work with iPhone,
And if they don't work as advertised,
And if they never worked as advertised,
And if Ford was notified they do not work,
And if Ford took no appropriate action to rectify the problem,
Then
Seems a class action suit might be appropriate.
Just because it's software does not make it immune to legal remedy.
If the turbo did not work, after Ford sold it as a working turbo, then they would have to make it right.
Clearly, from the small sampling we have on this thread, NO ONE with an iPhone has been able to get 100% service from the feature.
Another avenue to investigate is the Lemon Law. If you have taken it in for service for the same problem (Sync not working as it should) and they have not fixed it to your satisfaction, then the Lemon Law may apply.
Either of the above would get Ford's attention.
