Invisible glass and a microfiber worked well for me without leaving any scratches. There has been a few times where water has gotten into my housing and left water spots on the inside of the lens, and I wiped it away easily and I can't see any scratches. Just be very careful is all.

I opened the lenses on my 06. It's real easy to not see smudges until they are sealed back up.

compressed air! blow off the debris. If it needs washing still blow it off with compressed air to get all the debris that might scratch it off and then very gently use a microfiber and invisible glass.
