hey fellow 5.0L peeps...

anyone using the AFE intake + the "silencer" cover plate? im looking for an intake but have yet to find one that doesn't sound like a freight train.

AFE says their cover silences the intake down... any hands-on experiences w/AFE & 5.0L?

I've got an '11 5.0L and thought I would share with you my setup. Instead of spending a couple hundred dollars on a CAI kit, I read other threads and did some research and found out that the stock air box is better for this engine. CAI kits are not what they claim to be. With that said, I kept my stock air box setup and bought the AEM Dryflow filter, since putting this in I have quicker throttle response, MPG has increased some (averaging 19.7 city & 22-23 hwy using 89 octane), and it did not change the sound. It was only $38 (JC Whitney).
Plus, it is washable/reusable & warranted lifetime as long as I own the truck.

yup.. i saw that info as well. i also hear good things about the filter you are talking about. i am using a K&N at the moment and did notice a little better freeway response and it eliminated an annoying 5th to 6th gear hunting on a particular hill section.

i dont want to use my K&N oil filter anymore because of the problems people seem to be having with the MAF sensor.

That's exactly right. The oil gets on the MAF wires and the dirt/dust particles stick to oil and before you know it the problems start.
Besides, $38 is a cheap investment with positive results/gains to boot.

Don't you mean aFe Hot Air Intake. Don't put your hand on that metal intake tube you might get scorched. Want to buy mine? Want to talk about heat soak?:censored:

Just ordered the AEM tonight with free overnite shipping. I have had Volant CAI intake and K&N CAI's in the past. Interested to see if this filter only can get me above 12 mpg -but I would settle for a little quicker throttle response (I know the two do not go "hand in hand". If nothing, $38 is less than three filters.
