ok Fast Forward a week or so......thats was the TRICK..the kit as you all said came with all the stuff needed and works like a charm. I was told to lube it once a year. I think it needed a lubing and that didnt help....what was left in there was sorta sticky and not very good.
Im a happy truck owner again!!!!!!

Did you do it yourself?
Or, how much did a shop charge?

Funny thing about lubricating it. Every time I felt like I should, I would inspect it and there always seemed to be plenty of grease on everything. I would just take what collected and smear it(if it was free of debris), onto the tracks.
What has always bothered me, is that grease also grabs any tree debris. I feel like I want a less thick, but just as long lasting and maybe a bit slicker lubricant, that still has some weight to it, but is less dense than regular ole' grease, so that it doesn't build up on the ends or sides of the rails and collect those pia pine needles...etc.
Did you know what I mean....?

I had a shop do it... my luck Id drop th glass. it was only 288 for them...about 3 hrs.
I know what you mean about the lube. Im trying to think what I will use come time. The old stuff was sticky sorta and have no moisture to it. like stuck on and not slippery at all. no excess seemed to be sludged up against the side but would not be surprised if the lack of lube "helped" a bit.
the new kit came with a clear grease with it. I will have to see what kind it was.

1. Ford built a ****ty product that easily fails (the plastic rails).
2. You overpaid for the repair. I paid $500 total for the new rails for Sunroof Dr and my body guy to install.
Now, I had I had to spend the money too, but now I have a beefier rail on my roof and hope for it last a long time.

Mine seemed like it was going to fail the other day. It was making a rubbing and jumping sound as it opened - nothing I'd heard before.
I was a very hot day and the truck was in direct sunlight when it happened. I wonder if that has anything to do with it?
Also, I wonder if spraying some lithium grease on the rail system would help? I'm apprehensive about this thing, but Ford made a decision that most owners don't use their sunroofs that often/won't otherwise experience failure, and hope that those that do are relatively small in number. Probably a good calculus from a business standpoint, but it sure sucks for those who have failures.

Looking at the assembly, I couldn't see how you would replace the rails without drilling out the old rivets and ripping apart the silicon seal that directs the water to the drain pan.
The shop that I had do the repair (not a dealer) said they couldn't stand behind the work if the Sunroof Dr parts failed or water started leaking into the interior of the truck.
I figured safer than sorry....and I tried calling Sunroof Dr 3 times yesterday and the phone kept ringing for ~10 mins without anyone answering.

I had the same BS.My local dealer even brings a guy in to do labor.Sundoctor sells complete unit for $120 or so.My local mechanic said $300 to install. You can do yourself but I decided I didn't want the headache and if I F something up its on me.If you screws up the head liner its on him.I was able to sneak a peak at dealers quote and their guy charges them only $330 for install. How does that justify $1400 on my endNo thanks.Try local mechanic body shops or interior shops first.$300 labor seams more than fair to me.
