Default Anyone replace their leaf springs? Clunking is driving me insane.

I've checked and rechecked all of my suspension in the rear and cannot get this damn "clunk" to go away. The only thing left it can be is the leaf springs shifting. Has anyone had any luck getting the dealer to replace them, or has anyone done it themselves? Thanks!

I only asked about the dealer because I have the extended warranty on my truck, but I'm betting they tell me to pound sand with my lift and other mods on this one.

You sure you're rear shocks aren't shot? Have you taken them off to check their rebound? How sure are you that your U-bolts are tightened enough? Another thing that could be causing the clunk is your tailgate -- mine clunks sometimes if I take a good bump

I doubt it's in the springs. Look up "slip bump" or "slip yoke" and see if the symptoms fit.

Bingo, pull your driveshaft and grease the slip yoke that goes into the back of the transmission. My was clunking hard on take-off from a stop, until I greased it this weekend. I thought it could be some sort of axle wrap issue, but its simply bind from the slip yoke, then clunking as it releases.

Thanks guys. I have new Fox 2.0's with remote reservoirs on the rear, they aren't banging. I don't think it is slip bump, I have Stiffler's long bars on there too (no axle wrap) and it only happens going around a corner slowly when in motion, NEVER in a straight line. The best way to get it to do it is to turn onto an incline like a driveway where the weight of the truck shifts sideways. I talked to the dealer today, I have the extended service contract but they won't cover the springs because of all of my suspension mods, which I accept.

Mike, If nothing else it's a fairly simple job and would at least be a good step in the elimination process. I still suspect it's the issue.

Fair enough! I'll get a tube-o-lube from the stealership and tackle it Saturday. I will report back with my findings! Ford XG-8 is the preferred kind, correct?
