Default Anyone considering an 18, but doesn't want this Start-Stop tech?

I was going to post this in the community section where I'm sure it probably belongs.. but I thought a few of us are getting up there in age with our 09-14's.
I also get why Ford is implementing this tech. So I want to put saving the Polar Ice Caps aside just for a moment, to talk about this.
Besides a big chunk of Antarctic ice is coming our way soon anyways. So it's too late.

I was getting ramped up to special order a 2018, 5.0.
Even tho my current still stopped in my tracks, because I think she looks good still.
Anyways, I just watched the latest video and realized that the Start-Stop will be a standard option for all trim levels. Can I order it without it.. It doesn't seem so.

I know sitting next to something the other day (I forget, what car it was) as we crept forward in traffic and listening to that thing shut off and start up 4/5 times, in the 50 ft we slowly travelled literally drove me nuts listening to it, let alone driving it and having that small lag, I definitely witnessed it having while it started.
How long will a starter last or how long will the Flywheel teeth last??

I finally like the new design now that the grill is different and the 5.0 is going to be rocket ship.. but I am very turned off, with the fact that it's there's no choice with this option.
I think it's too early for this tech, since it seems rough and annoying!

I'm glad my truck still makes me proud of her looks, cause she may be staying with me.

Not sure about the 2018's but my 2017 has a button on the dash to shut off start/stop. You could also use Forscan or the jumper wire method to disable it.
For about the first week I got my truck I would shut it off using the button. Now it doesn't even bother me anymore so I leave it on most of the time.

When I ordered my '16 this was a concern of mine. I already had it figured out how to disable it and did that on day one.

I'm old and stubborn as they come
That said I knew I would hate the start stop! After a year with it, I love it. Either you can disable it on the dash, or can be permanently shut off with forscan or tunes can stop them.
One needs to learn it, then take control. The one you heard start 4 or 5 times is an idiot. You can use the brake and you choose start stop by the pressure you apply. If I know a stop light etc will be short, I control pressure applied to the brake and keep er running. Any smart / good driver can master the start stop if they choose. I love it for long lights, freight trains etc. Somewhere I read if its off more than 2 seconds it saves gas...less than that is not worth it. Give it a try, don't let it win... if you don't want it that much, it can be permantly shut off

Mudder, I had to laugh a little when I saw those words. I don't think we have many of these folks in our town anymore. But, that's is a good tip on how to use the brake pedal. Thanks, if I ever buy a star/stop equipped vehicle I will remember this.

I actually am looking forward to getting a truck with ESS. Mine will bag up 20 MPG all day long on the highway, but once you hit town the stop lights and drive-thrus destroy it. The ESS feature should really help keep the MPGs up!

For the record, vehicles with ESS have upgraded flywheels and starter motors on them. They are specifically designed to withstand the constant start/stop condition.

I would be willing to bet the MPG gains with start/stop are not measurable.

That would depend on your specific driving conditions.
