Anyone with 2.0 Ecoboost experience
Sorry for asking this guys. I can't seem to find the information I want on this 2.0 Ecoboost engine in an Explorer. I know it is a dry turbo versus the wet twin turbos in 3.5. Does anyone have this engine in their stable in a Ford product. I am keeping my truck but I may purchase an Explorer for my wife and this is what is in it. I would like to know any experience somone has with it. I like what I read in here. What is the mileage and reliability.

See? It works in monkeys!
Only had one in an SEL Escape. More than enough power in that one, but from what I have read it's woefully underpowered for the Explorer. I worry about it working so hard over the long-term.
A co-worker of mine has a Limited and they went with the 3.5.
Shame they don't offer the 3.5EB in the Explorer like they do with the Flex. Now that's one hot wagon.

Although this is an f150 forum, I have been thinking about asking somewhat of the same question, so I'm glad you did and I didn't have to! :-) My parents are thinking of getting rid of their 2010 E-350 Benz and are looking at the Explorers and are asking for my input as far as best motor choice for good "real world" MPG's and drive-ability, but isn't a dog when you have to get moving quick. Rant over and subscribed!

The 2.0 EB makes the Fusion and the Escape feel like hotrods, great engine in those vehicles.
In the Edge and Explorer it's adequate, but that's about it. Not enough performance from it to make either vehicle particularly exciting, but not underpowered to the point where you feel like you can't keep up with traffic. I'd personally go with the V6 on the Explorer, or maybe even the Sport model with the 3.5 EcoBoost (plus, if you get it in the white color, it looks a lot like the Explorer cop cars with the blacked out grill and trim).

I've driven the 2.0 Escape. The Escape was great, but the turbo lag was pretty hard to get used to. Power was either on or off when driving in traffic..but really only when getting off the line. I've driven 2.0 Edges and it's OK, but that's a pretty hefty vehicle to pull around with that little engine. It's no hot rod, but it's not a Tata Nano either. The 3.7/6spd in my mom's Lincoln is easily a top 5 Ford engine. Buttery smooth and has tons of low end for what it is.

Thanks guys. I have a taurus with the 3.5 non turbo. It's fine. I work 165 miles from home so the wife and I travel a lot of miles every week and wanted luxury but economy to. I drove both and the 3.5 turbo is definitely strong and in the city test drive the 2.0 was pretty good. Bad thing about buying a car can't really say if you like the vehicle long term on just a short drive. I need the mileage of 2.0 but don't want to be under powered. My hotrod days are long over and the explorer is not cheap. I don't think I would pay for the sport given its cost just to get the 3.5 if I can get by with the 2.0 but I need a confidence check on the reliability and strength of the 2.0. The Harley stays that's my toy.
