I'm 35y.o...... with a 2012 Platinum and love it and dont regret it one bit. My brother got a 2012 FX4 a week after I got mine and I'm glad I got the Platinum. Not knocking the FX4 but just wanted something a lil more decked out. Mine wont see as much work as his, that's why I went the route I did.
anyhow......the wood (all of it really) and clear coat on it are soft and yes, scratches easily...when I bought mine, it was a demo with 1500m on it and had a scratch on the wheel also...I would imagine it came from a ring.
the "plastic" is gonna rattle, esp. in the cold.....these aren't high end bimmers or benz's with sound dampened interiors..get use to it...check the seat belts also, mine clangs all the time.
and as for the auto running boards leave them down and turn them off in that position if thats the look you want. get some of that granulate(sp?) tape for some grip......or do what i'm gonna do....get a spray in bed liner and have them spray the running boards.....
hope this helps, atleast a little...haha
good luck and enjoy the crap outta your PLATINUM....nicest truck out there!!!!

Very happy with mine. No regrets whatsoever. I park next to a 3 month old white platinum tundra so every day I get to see both side by side. Mine was new last year and he had a 2 or 3 year old silver tundra. I laughed when he traded to a truck almost identical to mine but stuck with toyota. When I take my team to lunch, they always love jumping in my truck.

I went from a 2009 lariat to a 2013 platinum 45 days ago. Love it so far. Not anxious to see scratches on the wheel though.
I wasn't sure about the power boards at first. It has taken me some time to get used to them coming down farther than the fixed boards, and the clunk when they come back up still catches me off grad on occasion. What hit me? Oh, the board came up.

No regrets at all....I love my Platinum.
My steering wheel is scratched too (minor) and I attribute this to my wedding ring (it's Tungsten Carbide). I was thinking of going to a upholstery shop and have them professionally cover this wood section with leather. This would also warm the steering wheel up...that wood area can be pretty darned cold on the hands!!!!!

Anybody got pics of the Platinum steering wheel and where it gets scratched? I'm thinking about ordering a 2013 Platinum in the next few days...I don't remember a wood section on the 2013 Platinum that I sat in for 30sec last week...

You might want to look at a Limited rather than Platinum. If you completely option out a Platinum it will cost more than a Limited which has it all in the base price. Of course you would have to be happy with the Red Leather interior, but there is no wood (plastic) steering wheel. The Limited wheel is all leather. My wife has a '12 Platinum (23K now) and we love it. I bought a '13 Limited today. Can't wait to bring it home on Monday.
