I have one in my 08 that's blown and built up a little. The engine is awsome.

the funny thing is I had a '04 Gmc Sierra with a 4.8L and it was the slowest thing ever I used to get killed by 5.3L Chevy's, tundras, and Titans too and my truck was moded with intake, exhaust, and programed still did not make a diffrence but I used to kill Fords all day (5.4/4.6 engines).anyway my friend got a '04 F-150 WITH THE 4.6 and it was slowest thing ever so after that I pretty much new Fords engines sucked for HP but fast foward to 2010,I ended up getting a a 2010 F-150 (with the 3v 5.4 engine if ur wondering)and I have to say I am presently surprised how quick it is for being such a big truck (a lot faster stock then my modded Gmc BTW) so I guess the the stigma is gone for me about those engines and I'm not gonna talk about the new engines Ford put out cause there awesome.

I'm not going to Mario Andretti it all up out there so this 5.4 is all I will ever need. I've got 2 kids that I haul around most of the time so it does the job in fine fashion. Love the torque off the line and I am getting about 16mpg in the city and over 19 on the highway! And I haven't even looked into a programmer yet!

Everyone talks about the hp of the 5.4. If your pulling I don't think that hp is that important, the 5.4 has a huge stroke which makes good bottom end torque, seems like a good truck motor!

Thumbs up

I love my 5.4! She had plenty of power for me and is smooth as silk. Haven't had not one issue with the engine or the entire truck for that matter. I'm averaging 17 mpg around town and have gotten as high as 20.1 on the interstates. And yes, that's hand calculated mileage. But I will admit, I drive like an old man. Maybe that's because I 'AM' an old man, lol.

I've had my '09 since new and use it primarily for weekends and towing (I have a Honda I use for commuting) and have zero complaints!!!! One of the best gas trucks I have ever owned.... especially after the tune!!!

I have a 2010 5.4 F150 and 2005 4.0 Mustang. You can tell I like the "old school" powertrains. Yes, the power numbers are mediocre and the MPGs are nothing special, but they're reliable day in and day out, year after year after year.

Can we say the same about the 3.7L V6, the Ecoboost, or the 5.0L with respect to reliability? I hope so, but it'll be 5 years, maybe 8 years, before we really know.

Also, let's see what tweaks are made to the 2012, 2013 and 2014 versions of these engines. Are there mistakes that need correcting? No one can say for sure just yet.
