Default Any center consol mods out there?

Curious to see what others have done to make center consoles more convenient/user friendly.

do you have the actual center console or the split bench? im bummed i went with the split bench the center console is usless. its 80% dead space. they had plenty of room to make it square but made a dam triangle. You cant even put a 8x11 folder in there! my buddies tundra's console is so big you can put a laptop and hanging files

I hear ya there. The only thing that space is useful for is a midsize Glock.

I have the full size.

Interested to see if anyone:
- added a lights (set off by mercury switch or something)
- turned into cooler(though video seemed fake but doable if can protect 12v outlet)
- game console
- other

Any neat ideas y'all can think of

Nothing special, but i'll chime in here...

Ran a power cord for my Moto Droid X2 from the 12v source in the console to a Motorola car mount that is secured to the pass. side of the console. The cord runs underneath the console and peaks out behind the trim where the mount is, very stealthy.

I did the light mod. I bought a couple of LED strips from Ebay. I used a mercury switch from an old heating thermostat. Power was easy with the 12 volts mounted on the rear of the console. Wish I had some pics for ya. But a very clean job can be done without any wiring showing if you take your itme.

Personally, I think its a great mod, that huge black hole needs to be lit....

Added LED lights down both sides (inside) with a mercury switch in the lid to turn them on and off. Saw a thread somewhere and built off of it. Pulled power off of the rear power outlet. I also hung a triple power outlet under the lip at the front. Can charge the wife and my cellphones in private without all the cords in the cab. My wife puts one of those soft side coolers with blue ice in there when we travel. It's wonderful to have a snack bar while on the road!

Does the console pop apart easily? ... Think this one is on the list

Yep................ there a few screws to take the console cover off. then a few more to separate the inside from the cover.I mounted the switch between the inside portion of the cover and the cover. Ran the wires from the switch out the back and down to the 12v outlet.

I could try and get some pics for you tomorrow. Kinda dark dark out there now....

I have been meaning to write up a "How To", just haven't gotten around to it. Maybe this could be my excuse....
