I can confirm it is the mike. My 2011 has the same one and I confirmed without a doubt that it is the mic. Try tapping on it while calling someone

I have a 2011 XLT and have it. Thought it was the Sync mic. Maybe not.

When I bought my truck a couple months ago the salesman told me it was the microphone when I asked about it.
