Another trailer brake question
#31
Why on earth would Ford eliminate those wires? F150's have been pre-wired for brake controllers for almost a decade now!
Does anyone have a wiring diagram to verify this? Previously, all trucks had the wiring from the the Fuse panel (heck the fuse was even installed!) for the brake controller circuit, and had all wiring except the pigtail at the dash, and the harness at the rear.
To be perfectly honest, this situation strikes me as a scam, and I am thinking the dealer ripped you off. Did you check the harness at the tail and verify that there was only 4 wires?

We even went to the Ford tech line and got this answer
Trust me my dealer did not scam me.
It is what it is The plug for the BC is under the dash and theese 2 wire terminate under the dash by the steering column
Only is a problem if you have a truck with out a trailer hitch and decide to put one on and want a 7 pin setup

Thanks for your input cigar guy - my dealer had no idea that they were not all plug and play - but maybe I was the first one in there doing this mod -
Seems kind of silly to me, stocking two different wiring harnesses, IMO Ford should have foreseen this.

I have the factory brake controller and tow package. My truck only recognizes trailers that have brakes. Anything I plug into the 4 pin it says "trailer disconnected". If that helps any.

~ final update ~
I just hooked up to the new equipment trailer, and the controller works flawlessly.
So guys - if your 2011 F150 did NOT come with a tow package, you can install the factory integrated brake controller, and have it flashed, but to make the brakes work you will have to run the blue brake controller wire to the rear plug.

Hey Montanaman
Glad it worked out for you
and I am glad to pass any info along
Also The reason that the BC says Trailer disconnected when there is a 4 pin plugged in is that there are NO Brakes on a 4 pin trailer so it has no reason to turn itself on

Just want to mark this thread. Gotta climb under the truck to see if I have the blue and red wire. Has anyone done a complete write up?
