Default Another Remote Start Question

So I have called every dealer in the area and NONE are familiar with the plug and play units for the 2011. They all said they have someone else install their remote starters which are the bronze, silver, ect. I asked the third party installer how long it would take. Response was one hour. I know the cheaper kit can be installed in about 15 minutes. I then asked how much. Response was 160-180 USD.............WOW even if it would take an hour that is twice as much as th dealer labor rate. So I guess the question is whether there is anyone else that can re-flash the puter to recognize the unit. The keys will also need programmed so I need to find someone to do that unless I go with the 1000 foot system.

Does anybody out there know a way around the idiot dealers for this?? I can/will install myself if need be but still need a re-flash.

Help

You will need an IDS to activate your remote start. Plus have the keys cut somewhere.

who cares if your dealer isnt familiar with the new units.... you can do the install yourself!!! they are very easy to install, and should take no longer than 15 minutes, if you take your time.

then, yes you will need a dealer to activate the starter with their IDS. this process only takes about 5 minutes. and, depending on your dealer, the charge will vary. i was lucky and got it done for free, but others have paid the full hour rate for labor.

there are different versions available. i bought CL3Z-19G364-A from Tasca for 189.00, plus 10.00 to ship. that with a free activation makes a hell of a deal for such an easy install.

the part number i listed has the extra FOB (1 way). if i was going to do it again, i would get the 2 way FOB i think..... if i dont actually see my truck, i sometimes get to it only to realize it isnt running. i didnt want to bother with the new key cutting and remote programming, so thats why i went this route.

good luck!

Same here, I purchased the unit, installed it myself in under 15 mins (in the package is 2 pieces. the module itself and a wire. Connect one end of wire to module, the other end into TPMS module the the right of the glovebox. secure with zip ties)

Go to the dealer and have them activate it with the IDS. If they grab you for the labour, its still a deal.

Here's pics of the 2 way system installed by a member. https://www.f150forum.com/f38/2011-p...7/#post1251053

Need ids to turn on system. You can program keys your self. Check owners manual for procedure. All you need are 2 preprogrammed keys and 2 free minutes.

Dealer installed and programmed mine in an hour. Some dealers will prefer not to do them so they'll say they have a shop that does them. I went thru this. One dealer needed to see it, they didn't believe it was a Ford system? Then they quoted me 3hrs labor. I called them idiots and left.
The dealer that put it in said they are easy to do but a bit time consuming in the program as you have all these drop-downs to drill down to in the IDS when installing the program in yours truck's computer. (if it's not already there, mine wasn't). I have the Series 100 supposed to be short range but I have huge range on mine.
