hey guys. my truck with the 4.6 3v makes like a tinging or pinging or some kind of ing sound, also resembling a slight knocking sound, coming from engine bay i believe while accelerating or when theres a load on engine. it started out small but seems to be getting worse over time. are these engines known for piston slap? truck has 123000 miles. truck also has check engine light with p2020 code. any help appreciated. thanks

 

Seems like you have an issue with your driver side intake manifold runner control valve. Back of intake manifold. Code sounds mechanical in failure.

Most info on these seems to be for 5.4 not 4.6 so you'll have to see which part number resembles yours:

3L3Z-9B742-A
6L2Z-9B742-A

You may have to take your intake manifold just to properly test the IMRC. The actuating arm assembly has probably failed if it's a mechanical issue. There's also probably some kind of flap inside the manifold. I'm not familiar with these.
