Am I crazy?? Dually conversion
So, I'm home from work today and thoughts about my truck started entering my mind again. I have a 2012 F150 STX, now what I would like to do is, bear with me, make my truck dually, just for looks. However I would still like to do it correctly. Like put an axle from a 250 underneath. And then get some dually flares, paint to match. And then all the other things. I know this sounds far fetched so I just need to know if this is crazy or if its possible and not too hard. I have a shop where I go to get things done and since its family, I get it done for free so I basically just need the parts and need to know what to buy. First issues I'm having are the axle gear ratio's, I'm thinking of installing a 4" BDS lift kit at the same time. So I think most 250's have 4.10 ratio? so I would need to buy that for the front. Where can I get these gears from? Secondly, is the drive shaft, will I have to get a custom one made to fit for the new axle? And thirdly, is the fender flares, I am going to look at a junk yard and then just get them painted, what year would fit best, or maybe I'll just eyeball it and have the body shop make them work . . . i have about 4-5k to make all of this work, if that's a realistic number. That doesn't include rims and tires but i'll figure something out about those as well. I know there will be haters saying this is only a 150 and to get a superduty, but I feel like having a one of a kind f150. Thank you everybody, and i'll keep updating when I find out new things.

I understand things take time. But in three months he's gotten spacers and had tires mounted. He's also mock mounted the flares. What's the progress of the axle? Did he get one? Where are those pics?
I guess I'm getting impatient waiting for the real meat of the build.
Keep up the good work. This is a good thread!

it would definitely be one of a kind. Wouldn't you need a dually axle from an f350 though? I know some of the new diesel trucks have as low as 3:31 gears. My father in law has 3.73's on his f350. You would also need the lights in the front and back for the width. I think you need 3 amber lights up from and 3 red lights in the back. Not sure what the specifics are but those probably wouldn't be that expensive.
You can call it the Kardashian Edition F150 when you are done.

Well I was thinking just a little bit beefier axle, and then wheel spacers. And I would do 3.73's, but since I'm doing a lift as well, I was thinking of putting 35's on, so 4.10's would be better I think. And I am getting a tuner so no worries about tire size and whatnot.. But yes, I will have to put lights on the flares, but that's not that hard, I know a little electrical so, I could figure it out. And that name I don't feel like it fits haha

Well, me and my bud are going to a junk yard to price and look and see what we can find later, maybe if there's something good I will get it . . . I'm not sure if I should go for a 4" lift or not . . . on top of this conversion. So I may not until my tires wear further down. Any body have any ideas if there will be an issue with the bigger axle and connecting to the leafs? I may put a little big bigger of block to give it the raised look.

Matching the wheels for 6 lug up front and 8 lug in the rear would be hard. But maybe you can find an identical set somewhere. That's the only thing I can think of but I'm not very mechanically inclined so I'm sure there are others. Are you saying that you wouldn't do 2 rear wheels on each side you would just space out the wheels and only have one?
